Uugh. x.x I don't like rotary -> V8 swaps. The RX7's, of any generation, aren't really designed as drag vehicles.

But realistically, if it's what you want to do, good luck. =)

Yes, Defeats the point of RX. "R" is for Roatry Boys and Girls.

Just get an old Porsche Frame. They are cheaper and cooler...

I absolutely agree that the FD was not designed as a straight line car. But with an LS1 swap, there is no meaningful change in over all weight or the front/rear bias. Plus, lots of low end torque, it's NA, better gas mileage and professional service is widely available. I understand that there can be a little bump steer if not done properly, but this is also the case with 3 rotors. Don't get me wrong, I like my FD, but if I ever ended up with rolling chassis from another car, these guys might get a call. http://hinsonsupercars.com/

LS1's have a LOT of potential and huge aftermarket, so (sans cost of the swap) a 400 hp LS1 fd should be relatively easy/cheap to make.

We are seriously thinking about shoving a 350 into our fb, after the last PITA 12A crapped out...

Actually the LS1 swap adds less than 50lbs to the front of the car, IIRC. It's an all aluminum block and heads. There is a slight problem with bump steer/dead spot in the steering that can be corrected by buying new control arms.

xelderx is right. The LS1-6 is only marginally heavier than the FD powerplant, taking into account the weight of the turbos and other accessories like IC, 'Y' pipe and other plumbing. And it's still placed low and well behind the front axle, so center of gravity/polar moment is nearly the same. So handling isn't compromised and it's not a "drag only" car. I'm still studying the idea, but if it were only good for a straight line , I wouldn't be interested either.

I use to feel as the Captain does regarding the LS swap. But now I'm not so sure. I'm starting to think of a V8 swap much like any other 'modification', though admittedly an extreme one. In fact, those that preach "keeping the FD pure", often have no problems with a 3-rotor swap, or extreme single turbo, huge FMIC, etc. etc.

it's actually very easy to do a v8 swap on a rx-7. I talked to a few people about it and they loved it, there is like a straight bolt on kit for this too. but what ever you want to do

Signal 2, what they're saying is that it's an RX-7, and you should keep that pure, meaning keep a rotory in it. That's what the car is known for. It's what makes it great.

okay then, good point about the complete fd motor. I want one in my RX-8 when my warranty goes out. Better gas milage and a whole lotta more tq/hp in a 3200lb car?! sign me up!

I think my RX-8's 8,000 mile old engine already needs replacing.
