Well goes to show that Mazda is definately a ford...

Ok... so i took in the car to Lou Bachrought (Coconut Creek, Fl) for some problems i had with that car since new...

1. The Bumper Valence is falling off, except it isn't fallin off at the exhaust part, the drivers side... THEY DID order one for me and are going to install it tuesday.

2. The Brushings... i noticed nasty Squeeks in the morning driving my baby to school... so IM 90% positive its the brushings, They could NOT reproduce the problems. (If this is not what bad brushings are, please tell me what are... i am very intersted in knowing whats wrong w/ my car)

3. Syncros... <----LOL Let me go to say that my tranny sucks the big one... It grinds, Upshifting and Downshifting with the Clutch all the way in... Burning up my clutch and grinding away the gears. The dealership COULD NOT reproduce these conditions.

So when i leave the dealership on my way home i get into 4th gear, and low and behold, The ******* 4th gear wouldn't come off (it would stay in 4th and wouldn't budge for s***).....

Also now my tranny wont go in reverse.. it goes eitehr of two ways after i ffind the problem... pumping hte clutch 3-4 times then trying reverse, or forcing the mother ****** in reverse...

No flames needed here, i like the MSP enough to keep ehr for a year or 2 but i mean its only got 1500 miles.. Any my Mitsu Galant didn't have any of these problems and Mitsu is known for shittty cars heh....

All i ask is that someone can explain to me what i should do regarding the problems... about the dealer.. should i go again to the dealer, call Mazda directly... or just give the dealership a bad survey cause my survey just came in :)

Ok, thanks please reply soon too

the front squeeking is a combo of the "brushing" and the struts, my dealer would grease them and it would stop.

The syncro issue, you gotta take it easy on these trannys dont force anything shift softly and let it slide into gear dont force it.

i had my syncros replace at 15000 miles, since then i have been much gentler and i now have almost 40,000 and it is still fine. Dont shift untill the clutch is totally depressed. Lucky for you msp'er they upgraded the forks, mp3 and p5 were breaking forks all the time when they first came out.

So what you think i should do about the Tranny and hte dealer... im afraid im just grinding away at the tranny and and the clutch in a way....

When they change my tranny fluid it will be solid chunks of metal (i hope not...!)

lemacfar, what color MSP do you have? Are you the other titanium one I see out at the meets (the other one being Mike)?

Don't give them a bad survey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol, unless they really screwed you......(you have no idea how much that survey counts)
My suggestion tell them you want to test drive the vehicle with the tech so you can point the noises/problems out to them.
Even if they dont fix it or hear it you have the proof so that if it breaks badly you can say" i told you so" and Mazda will have to fix it.

Yes im the other Titanium, AKA the jackass at the other meets

Yes i havn't seen your black MSP ive seen 2 orange ones though but i can never talk to them, there is another MSP titanium, an asian guy.

My 3rd gear synchro's are going out. I am getting it fixed on Monday. I am at 17,000 miles and I assume its from this car being my first stick car.. and teaching so many other to drive stick in my car. My other problems include warped rotors and the clutch chatter TSB for 2002 cars.

I dont mean to offend you if you are "an expert" at manual transmissions, but do you drive your car hard? I am just learning mechanics and as long as you have the RPM's matched before you shift into a gear the synchros shouldnt be a problem.. they shouldnt even go out.. I can shift into 3rd without that grinding problem you get...

That sucks about the synchros failing already. I drive my car hard sometimes, but when I'm just cruising, I almost always double clutch to avoid wearing them out. Or sometimes if I'm really lazy I'll just shift without even touching the clutch .

I am not an expert by any means... sorry for sayign so but i know how to drive stick... I learned in an Evo :) as Well as a IS300

But im just saying... i had 3 other friends drive my car and definately tell my my tranny sux.

Driving hard? Of course i drive the car hard sometimes... thats what its made for... i dont **** it up though.

My suggestions:
1. Don't worry about the squeaking up front unless it's really bad or if you enjoy trips to the dealership. The dealer won't "fix" that permanently anyway.
2. Give them a bad survey for the syncro issue -- if they couldn't reproduce it then they should have ASKED you to take them for a ride and have you reproduce it for them. Also, if there's a "comment" section on the survey, lay into Mazda for having so many cars with the skirting falling off -- there is no acceptable reason for that.

All I can tell you is that my tranny has been PERFECT so far -- I can slam that sucker and quick shift till the cows come home and it has never made a grinding sound even once. It also goes into gear real easy too (when it's warm outside). I love my tranny.

Thanks for you help ill definately ask the dealer for another check... im thinking im gonna leave her at the dealership monday night to sit overnight and have the ****** (i mean dealers check it out)

I don't mean to offend anyone here...but how old are you?

Too young for them to take you serious? That's why I'm asking

Next, you say you drive a stick well, but you learned on an EVO.....how long has an EVO been out...not very long right. another indication that your young and haven't been driving stick very long. Still, 1500 miles is not much, so you would have to do some serious s*** there to break it yourself.

oh, just checked your profile...so i know the age. I find that young people don't get the respect they should, and dealers often blow any problem off as if it's your fault. Call Mazda USA...make a formal complaint.

brushings......LOL

Get the new bushing fix, part 156E if the back makes a banging or clunk noise when going over bumps

the front will squeak when cold....welcome to poly urethane bushings. Live with this. Does it go away after the car warms up? If so, this is the problem.

I am convinced that while there may be some legitimate bad trannies out there, that the majority of people having troubles with them, it's because of their own driving habits. I'm on my 2nd Protege, and not one problem with my tranny. I've been driving sticks for 12 years. Only one car in my home town had a bad tranny...a P5. But this guy drove like a hot s***, FnF type street racer, and he deserved it imho.

Good luck, and I am sorry to hear your troubles

Dont know about you dude but Evo's have been out down south since March 16th, i know i went to the dealer every day to check and see when it came in... i also was goign to buy it, thats my next car...

Im 19 but im very mature... and i actually got alot of respect from the service manager because the car is in my name. I think i just have to show him on a drive around the problems. Thanks for the Bushing explanation, i finally understand its the polyurethane.

But anywho... thanks guy, will have my car fixed in no time (hopefully), love my MSP btw

It's only the clutch release fork, and people were breaking their tranny's because of opreator error....Meaning they messed up the tranny through abuse.

Not because of weak parts. Lurch's (Eric Burmeister's) rally car is a prime example of how strong the stock tranny is...

I am just surprised i havent heard of any msp breaking shift forks yet. It seemed to be quite a problem around here b4.

I think our stock trannys are fine, they just need babied. Mine still feels great, except a lil notchy 1st-2nd which has been a problem from day one.

I think that just about every tranny has that problem with the factory tranny fluid in it. As soon as I switched in my eclipse to synthetic I never had grinding again.

As far as reverse every manual car has that problem. Just put it in a different gear and engage the clutch just enuf till it grabs then she will slide right into reverse because the gears line up then or something. Works everytime for me.

They don't need to be babied...You just have know what you are doing when shifting.

Read some of Lurch's posts...
