I aint the guy claiming 135 in a stock first gen Protege. If anything, It seems like you'd LOSE some torque with a big exhaust but no other mods.

Let's be honest...I've been in PLENTY of first gen Proteges, 323s, hell even GLCs, but I've never been in one that's faster than my P5. And my P5 tops out at 130 or so.
A 5-speed LX is faster than a P5.. but LXs in 5-speed aren't all that common.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA dude. p5- 1/4 mile in 17.3 seconds
1990 protege lx-1/4 in 16.5 stock
p5-0-60 9.3 seconds
1990 protege lx- 0-60 8.5 seconds
my car, documented 1/4@ 15.8 at 88 mph
i have 3 less horsepower than you (stock) weigh several hundred pounds less, and have the same gearing. tell me again why you are faster?

look...this is one of those occasions when u say ok, maybe im wrong. im not the only one to do it in a 1st gen, some have buried the needle. Its really not hard. The bp05 is a phenomenal engine, still in use in several cars, and capable of things the fs-de cant dream of. the car is one of the best handling cars ive ever driven, and i actually passed up a 2002 es 2.0 for my car. please, dont be ignorant.

hmm. i run 15.8. msp's run stock anywhere from 14.9-15.3, which, in real life driving=1 car length. go suck a rod

well actually i have a stock 1st gen LX, and me and my friend got it going 135..... .. following a friend to a location (didnt know how 2 get 2 where we where going) so we went as fast as we could 2 catch up. and we passed him going 135 he was only going 65 :)

I personally don't mine having a car that's a little slower.....it's a much better image....year...style....I roll in laser blue for the look mostly....protege's just aren't fast cars (except fot the msp and mp3 (sorta))

90-95 here, I see no reason to drive any faster, it's not worth the many consequences, but when I was younger I used to max cars out. My Maxima had been to 166 (redline 5th gear) on the upper deck carpool of the 110 freeway near downtown LA. I was stupid back then.

The car is rock stable at 90-95, but I don't like how high it revs at any speed higher then that. With the A/C on, long distance high speed travelling will raise the exhaust gas temp to uncomfortable ranges. I'm surprised that more MSP owners don't use an EGT. On the other hand, our cars are rich pigs and rich will keep it cool. I lost an engine doing 115 for a prolonged period of time due to a slightly lean mixture that just got too hot over time.

Back to the point, there's no margin for error at 135 MPH so I'd rather not take my speed up there, and I hope I'm not around anyone else when they do.

116, here.......that was a month ago or so..very stable ride smooth...could have gone faster but caught up to all the cars in front of me too fast.... :)
