Higher fuel usage after throttle body cleaning..?

I recently had my throttle body cleaned and have been noticing that the mileage I am getting is considerably higher than before I had it done. Any suggestions on why this would be happening and what I can do to fix it?

Are you getting better gas mileage, or higher fuel usage? How many miles on your vehicle and what year, engine type, etc?

Your mechanic probably disconnected the 12v battery forcing a reset of AT back to factory setting.
For better or worse MPG, that is.

How long does it need to be disconnected for this to reset? I thought only the reset procedure would trigger that. I had mine disconnected for several hours doing my turbo inlet pipe swap and the car drives like before.

I'd ask the shop what method did they use to clean the TB.

Like Ceric mentioned, if they disconnected the battery it may have reset the adaptives in the ECU.

If they ran fluid they ran through the system, it may have fouled your plugs. Does it idle rough? If you have the tools, remove a spark plug to confirm if it's fouled or not.

It doesn't take long running rich to foul plugs. I've fouled plugs tuning race engines. Rather than try to clean them, we start over with new plugs. Lucky for us, we only have 4 plugs that are easy to get to.

If they removed the TB, then check for vacuum leaks. One way to check with the engine running is to spray brake cleaner between the TB and the intake. If you can hear the idle change, then it has a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will hurt FE among other things.

I would get to the bottom of this and not ignore it.

Good Luck

I've read it's a good idea to be careful when you clean the throttle body. If you disturb sensors, etc. , in that area you can cause damage.
