High speed whistle-(WTF)

The only time I had a whistle at high speeds it bothered me to the point that I opened my hood. It was then that I discovered my coolant leak. After the leak was fixed I never got the high speed whistle again. Strange huh? Could it have been air/fluid escaping from a loose hose when the car was being pushed? I don't get it but it was there and now it's not. It's a good thing are cars aren't quirky and inconsistant or anything!

140 must be in those silly metric Canadian units, eh?

I get a whistle when the windows are open even at more (ahem) "reasonable" speeds. It comes from the molding on the back of the back door windows (between the rolldown and the fixed triangle glass). I'm going to slightly trim the upper rubber (I think) to smooth the airflow.

100MPH will get you some other noises too - agreed with the above to check turbo whistle. If you want to see if it's the windshield molding, use some duct (oops, scratch that) "racing" tape to cover offending parts of the molding, or wipers, or whatever. When the whistle stops you've found your source. And if you want to KEEP it there, you can even get colored racers tape... check Summit Racing... I think they even have Orange...

The Cause of the problem is the hood weatherstriping or lack of it. I drove from St. Louis to Vegas and back last month and did about 105 mph for half of the trip (god I love New Mexico and the complete lack of law enforcment). You could see and hear the hood resonating with the whistle. The hood would actually start vibrating when the whistling started. Every time I got a cross wind you could hear it change dramatically. I have removed the weatherstriping and have heard this from 80 mph on up. I dont know if putting the weatherstripping back on would stop it or not. It is NOT the turbo. At 100 mph you cant hear a damn thing from the engine bay. All you can hear is the wind and about 4000 rpm of motor happily singing.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I haven't had a chance to try to diagnose the problem yet but I am sure it is not the turbo at all. It have to be the windshield molding or weatherstripping.

Nah, it's the molding around the windshield. Do a search, all the pro's do it. I was looking at this just the other day when trying to resolve my noisy passenger side window area.

Yep, I've got it too. Just got back from a weekend road trip and the wind noise from the passenger's side was driving me nuts. My girlfriend swears it's coming from the upper rear corner area of the passenger door/window frame, but from my position it sounds like it's coming from the lower rear pass. side corner area of the windshield. I even wondered if it wasn't the pass. side wiper. That wiper catches a lot of airflow. Still trying to figure it out.

I've been having that for months. It's the windows/windshield for sure. Happens to me at around the same speed too - and of course the dealership couldn't verify it because they can't go that fast. What I do is just crack the windows slightly whenever I need to go that fast (and of course the windows being down causes some negative interference with performance - but I guess negligible.
