High RPM's at highway speeds

I tried searching for anything related to this but I couldn't find anything close.

At highway speeds (60-80) my MSP is doing around 3000-3500 RPM. This seems a little high in my mind. Are all MSP's like this or just mine? So far I've only found one plus for it being so high: at least it has good throttle response when your going that fast. Thanks!
 
they have to stay in that range if they want to maintain that cruising speed.

small engine = low torque = high speeds under 3k rpm, drag force > friction force

my wrx doesnt but my protege definately did. especially with a 3" turbo back exhaust it was particularly annoying to the point where i tore up all the carpeting and replaced the underside with heavy s*** to dampen the noise, but it didnt work.

the WRX is much quieter, and i think IIRC needs 80mph+ to break 3k rpm...
 
my RPM's are at that at highway speeds. One other thing i have noticed, is if i have it bout half way throttle. it builds up really really rich and starts stuttering and spools crazy loud.......
 
yeah it does rev high on the freeway, but I rarely have to downshift to 4th to get passing power. I think the MSP would benefit from taller gears, but the standard protege is good as-is.

yea but some stupid msp owner would get taller gears and blow his stock internals from the higher load taller gears give you

yea i get that at half throttle also at high rpms....its crazy i don't know what it is. I feel like im gonna blow the turbo or something.

Turbos make torque.
