High flow pre-cat??

:
2002 Mazda Protege ES
So I put on some headers a week or so ago but Im not too sure if this setup will pass inspection in NY. If it does not then Im going to go back to the stock setup....my question is, is there a high-flow/performance pre-cat available for third gen proteges?

none that i know of. do you have shorty headers? because if there is you may be able to start a project and do it yourself. but if you get a pre cat you lose your hp gains. most of the gains come from the elimination of the precat.

Yea I believe what Im gonna do is go with the MSP dual-cat midpipe so I can pass emissions. Ill get a cat-less midpipe to put on in between inspections, and top it off with a better flowing and sounding axle-back exhaust.

2.0 inches but it narrows down to 1.8 so it is the effectiveness of 1.8 because it is choked at a bend. i went 2.25 and i love it

Could you just put the stocky on for the day of... ;)

Use anti-sieze and keep new bolts handy...

Well my header eliminated the pre-cat, but in essence yea Im gonna use the dual-cat to pass inspections and then put on the catless in between. Will gutting the cat on the stock midpipe be the same as getting a catless. Wouldn't the gutted cat kinda act like a resonator too?

well import tuner did a test on this with a miata. decatting by busting it out gave approximately 1 whp and a catless gave 2 whp because it is a smother pipe and there is nothing to change the velocity of the exhaust when it is smooth

itll give you a little more flow in any application. of course that number rises when paired with other mods
