HID Projector Retrofit

don't know if any one is interested in retrofitting their headlights into projector headlights. but it does look really cool and practical to me.... even though it is a bit pricey.

but hey, they are european style HID projectors!!!

here is where I find:
www.hidtech.com

I have emailed them and ask questions about doing a possible retrofit group buy. I want to know if anyone would be interested.

They quote me $675.00 usd including:

(HID system :$400.00 usd)
2 Hella bixenon (H4 dual beam) projectors (brand new -- order from Germany)
2 Hella Ballsts (brand new -- order from Germany)
2 Phillips D2S bulbs (brand new -- order from Germany)

(Labor: $275.00 usd)
to retrofit the HID system into your OEM reflector housing

however you have to provide them with a set of headlight to work on of course.

anyone have experience with them? I have saw people on the hidforum saying good things about them. It is a little pricey but still you get the european projector look and a sharpy cut off HID system.

check out their site and let me know what you guys think.... I am debating if I should go ahead or not.

.... since the catz HID dual beam would coz' me like $550.00 anyways....

***long post if interested****

I am posting my email with questions I'd asked them to give you guys more information.

responses marked as *

"Hi Sean,

1) where do you order the bixenon projectors? I understand you guys usually use projectors from european cars (like S4, A6 etc), but are they brand new or you guys are getting from the junkyard (no offence, just making sure)? how about the ballst and the bulb?

* We get our xenon parts directly from Hella factory in Germany (brand new).

2) so it will probably be Hella Ballst and philips bulbs (i guess)? same questions, are they brand new? I don't want me to pay for that amount of money and found out they will be burning out few months after.

* Yes it will be Hella ballasts and Philips xenon bulbs, we might try to
get Bosch ballasts in the future. Yes they are brand new.

3) If you secure the ballst onto the headlight, and something ran wrong (say, ballst failure) how do I go about to replace it? same as the bulb, would I have access to the housing and replace the bulb if it burnt out? (would the whole thing be glued together and not able to be open?)

* The ballast will be secured either under your existing headlights or
inside your engine compartment. Of course it will be accessable to replace
in the future. Same procedure for the bulbs, they will be easily
accessable when it comes to replacement, which will probably be several
years. Each HID bulbs has average life of 2500 hours. If you drive two
hours per night each day, then you do the math and tell me how long it
would last. =)

4) Will the headlight fog up since you have to open up the headlight? is the warranty cover that?

* Yes we will need to open up your headlights to fit the xenon projector
in your low beam section. We will either use your OEM sealant or to
replace with regular silicon. We will restore to how it was. Of course you
will get 90 days parts and labor warranty, if there is anything wrong with
it, we will be responsible to fix it.

5) What should I go about to aim the headlight (I mean, to make sure the beam pattern is correct). will this be done when you retrofit lights? what happen if the light beam wasn't aiming right after I put back my headlight into my car? or is there any instruction to tell me how to aim the lightbeam?

* The aiming will be the same as your original headlights. Since we will
secure the projector onto your low beam reflector. You will just adjust it
like how you used to adjust your headlights. Like when your reflector
moves, the projector will move as well, cuz they are secured to each
other.

6) is there any leveling switch with the retrofit kit?

* No leveling switch. Everything will be adjustable just like your OEM
halogen housing.

7) is there anyway you can email me better pics of the bixenon projectors that I would be getting? or the whole kit?

* I am using my friend's picture to show you how everything will look
like in close up. I think Andy wouldn't mind =)

That's the exactly the same projector for the 1064515734

The bixenon has little solenoid/motor that built within the projector the
move the shield down to produce the HID for high beam.

8) will you be removing the reflector part of the headlight housing?

* We will not remove your low beam reflector. We will secure the
projector onto your reflector, this way you can just adjust it like how
you used to adjust your headlights.

9) is there any particular wiring (ie: additional rewiring, relays) that is involve for me to do after I received the retrofited headlight from you? or I just need to plug in the wires and play??

* As for the relay and extra wiring setup. We don't usually do that, cuz
we try to make things looks as OEM as possible. I don't like the idea of
running wires under the hood. It doesn't look pretty to me. If you prefer
the plug in and play, then we will need your halogen bulb to create an
extra adapter, so when you receive the finished product, then you just
need to plug the adapter to your light plug. Don't forget to change to
fuse to 20 Amp or up.

However if you want us to create the extra relay and those wiring to you,
then we can do it for additional 40.

Is this the set up you were referring to ?

10) I am from a protege forum (protegemp3.com), just wonder if you guys would consider to bid down the price for the members in the forum if I can organize a group buy. $675.00 for a set of retrofit still seems to be steep. But it now seems like everyone is eager to turn their headlights into HID, and the HID kits are now banded within the US, people may consider upgrade their headlights to projector HID headlights. please let me know if you guys might be interest in organizing a group buy.

* I will think about your suggestion about the group buy. I need to
speak to my partner about this idea. First I need to know how many people
are interested to just buy xenon parts and how many people are actually
interested in retrofitting. I will get back to you about that ok?

I have got some more replies from hidtech.com and got some more questions answered.

I'll see how this thread goes and if interested I will post my 2nd email.

comon' guys any comments???

im interested, but it will take me a while to save up the money. i have a lot of stuff to get for my car, and hids are a little low on the list. but in the future ill have the money.

i'm interested in getting some HID head lights but like freek, i gotta save my money up...there are other plans i want to do with my car....
i saw a msp with the head lights (the ones like on the beemers) on cardomain.com, looks bad ass!!

This is all well and good for the P5 owners, what about us sedan owners? It will be a completely different story since we use H4's..We would just have a projector housing with dual beam H4's? Would that actually work? Moreover, we'd have to do a core exchange..So the total would be more like 800ish after getting 2 new headlights.

I had the HIDTECH conversion done on my 2003.5 speed. The conversion uses Audi A6 projector HID's with Mercedes shrouds. Love them. HIDTECH very good to work with. They don't do core exchanges, you send them your headlights and do the conversion then ship them back. The attachment is the completed headlight assembly
