My HID kit should be here next Tuesday. I have looked at some install information from this site and other forums. But I was wondering if anyone had any tips or hints as to what I need to look out for when I go to install the kit next weekend? One of my concerns are with my Day Time running lights and how to switch them from my headlights to my fogs. Any ideas?

Private message either the_saint and or perfecto. Both have installed aftermarket HID on their 5's.

And I didn't catch your first two posts, but welcome (hi)

I don't know about switching them from your headlights to your fogs but when I installed mine all my friend did was ground my parking brake wire. The one that tells the computer whether or not your handbrake is on.

Basically you trick the computer into thinking your handbrake is always on. Then all you have to do is unplug your handbrake light bulb from your cluster.

There is the issue of that bulb being your warning bulb for low engine fluid and I believe your brakes as well.

I do have HIDs, but I'm stateside and we don't have DRLs so I won't be able to help you there. Sorry.

I do believe this has been covered many times in the Mazda3 section though.

The kit is in!!!!

Well, the MTEC HID kit arrived yesterday. It looks like a very high quality kit. I will be installing them on Saturday. I did some more research and will either disable my DRL or try to run them to my fogs. I will post some before and after pics after the install. Wish me luck.(RTM)

I'm surprised the DRL isn't on the high beam bulbs.. lots of cars just run the high beams at half wattage as DRLs.

HID installs are quite easy though, not much more effort than changing headlight bulbs. But then yeah.. hmm the DRLs really complicate things.

I think the 07 GT in the states comes with HIDs stock.

HID's in the Mazda 5

I know this was a really old quote, but.... I just wondered if the HID's worked out well in the Mazda 5? Are there issues with glare for oncoming drivers? I've just ordered some 5000k bulbs with 50w ballasts... Any comments welcome.

it is quite possible that you will have to re-aim your headlights. I know when we put some aftermarket hids in my buddies 08 avenger we had to reaim the lights.

In my 5 i did not have to reaim it, they have the same patern but a little bit more powerfull (nana)

Do you have any glare issues with oncoming drivers?

Also.... Do you get the 'warning light' issue that I've read about on a few posts on this forum?

No glre issues ... And i don't know witch "warning light" you are talking about ?!?!? So no i don't have this warning light :P

I had read that putting the HID kit in, causes the bulb blown indicator to illuminate. I will fit mine and see what happens..

Thanks for the reassurance! And for the quick response...

Chris

I didn't know that there is a bulb blown indicator, i thought it was a light to tell me that the lights are on !

just install them as regualar lights, but ground the ground wire to chasis instead of harness, you can use your HID as drl's no big deal at all.
