Hiboost MP3/MP5/Protege CEL question.

On highboost's site they say that their kits aren't carb legal. That's cool since I live in MA. But in MA we have similar emissions laws not as strict but fairly close. Basically we CAN mod, but our OBDII computers have to work and not throw CEL's (oh and pass smog lol).

Will the highboost budget kit throw a CEL, with an MSP ECU? I can't use the hiboost stand alone because it'll remove OBDII functionality, which is needed to pass emissions.

So I'm wondering if sticking the MSP ECU on the MP3/MP5/Protege would throw a CEL? Any local guys done any mods?

Sticking the ECU in won't cause a CEL as long as you have a catted midpipe with the 2nd oxygen sensor wired in after the cat

I don't know how well it'll work with the hiboost kit though.. I have it on my car but I basically have the MSP turbo kit on my car, just a bit more modded.

I thought the Haltech that came with the hiboost kit was just a fuel tuner.. if I recall correctly, it just wires into the fuel injector wiring

Cool your in NY, you have similar laws!

Thanks Kansei! So putting the MSP ECU in your MP5, had no weird side effects? Like I said I'm leaning towards and MP3 plus turbo, but if it can't pass emissions might as well wait and go for the MSP.

But if your MP5 runs a similar setup I have alot of hope!

I'm from CT though.. I do CT emissions.

Actually either way doesn't seem too bad. Based on what your saying as long as the car doesn't throw a CEL and I keep the cats I'm good.

Anyone else, on the ECU swap throwing codes?

I don't know about an ECU swap, but as far as CEL i took and drilled the second O2 sensor in the down pipe of my hiboost set up and it worked just fine. NO CEL'S HERE.
