Just got a Mazda5 Sport in stick and just want to say hi. (drive2) Bare-bone stock.

One question - has anyone changed his or her shift knob yet?
Perhaps to a leather, heavier one? If so, can you recommend one?

Welcome and enjoy your new ride!

I have the OE leather shift knob but it's nothing too special. If you want a good weighted shift knob, TWM seems to be a popular one but they don't offer any leather models. Razo has a weighted leather one, but it's generic looking.

You can see Mazda shift knobs here, around $75 or $80 plus shipping. The Miata one looks nice.

Looking closer, take a look at the Miata 5 silver and black knob for $73. Add something else, like maybe oil filters, an air filter, and/or a spare key, and you will be over $100 thus would get free shipping.

If you don't mind a Honda symbol on the knob, you can get a nice leather knob here for $27 plus shipping: http://www.handa-accessories.com/accint00.html I bought this a few years ago but it was just a little bigger than the OEM knob, didn't feel right, so I returned it.

Wow that Mazda Miata shift knob is sax on a beach!

My "leather" shift knob feels so plastic.

Having driven german cars, I actually prefer a relaxed, long-throw shifter over a shorter throw one. But thanks for the recommendation anyway.

Also, has anyone tried this Mitsubishi knob out yet? It gets a lot of good reviews from the Miata crowd. I'm just not sure if it will bolt onto the Mazda5, since I don't know if they share the same thread pattern.

I have an all leather shift knob from a Mitsubishi EVO. It looks the one in your link but it does not seem to be significantly heavier than stock, but much better in feel and richens up the cabin.
