What do you use to make one like you have? Do you have a program or do you just snip a clip from the comercial and scale it down? Doesn't an avatar have to be a jpeg or gif though? I don't know the whole thing has me confused. I'm lucky I copy and pasted my cheesy avatar

im assuming he uses a video capture card and editing software... pulls the comercial onto his computer... takes each fram and makes it into a .gif image.. scales them down to 100x100 and then uses a gif animator to place them in sequence... thereby creating an animated gif of the frames from the commercial

yeah that makes sense... But I was hoping he would say some kind of shareware software that I could download and do some stuff with. He probably got the commercial off of Grokster or Kazaa or something. I guess I'll have to delve intot the art of making animated Gif's. Thanks Pro

yah.. good point.. i didnt think of that.. he could've d/led them... but if you go to download.com you can get freeware animated gif makers... so you can play w/ those... but as for changing movie frames into gifs.. thats gonna take some licensed software...

Go on KaZaA and search for Ulead Gif Animator.
It's a program that can either take regular pics that you have or videos that you have on your PC. Simply start the program, click Video, select the video, and it loads the video in frame form. Then I simply find a clip(basicly a series of related frames), and delete all the frames exept the ones I want to keep. Then I go to image size, set the bigger number(ex: width 340pix, hight 280pix, I pick the width)to the forum limit(changes forum to forum), and it downsizes it equally. Then I go to Optomization Wizard and there's resolution settings. 256, 128, 64, 32, 16 bit. I go from the highest, and see how big the file size will be. Too big? I go down the list. Sometimes, it becomes junky looking, and I will go higher and just delete some of the frames so that the animation works and looks good. Then I go to save as, Gif, and whalla I have an awsome avatar.
For pics, I make sure that they are all the same size so that downsizing is equal. Then I put them in some sort of order, and usually words on the next frames after the pics.

not too confusing.. thats actually very simplistic... the program does everything for you.. you just tell it what you want to turn into an animation, what pixel size and resolution you want it.. and the program does all the work for you... pimp tho...

probably... theres alot of diff gif animators out there.. some are better than others... go to download.com and just search for gif animator

well thanks for the info guys. I'm definately going to try to creat my own cool avatars. Doesn't really sound that hard to do. I just didn't have the software to do it. Now I will. Thanks again.
Welecome mazkid!! Most of us are very nice here and welecome you with open arms! Just be careful around our dungeon "flamewars forum" Evil trolls with lotsa textbook info that drive lexus's frequent there. Just keep away from there and you will be fine. And if you do not know what I am talking about you may soon find ou.....LOL
By the way very nice avitar. Mine is animated too, but unllike you I have no skills so I stole it from another forum.

just get two gifs of his car dood..... one w/ lights on... one w/ lights off.... make sure they are same rez... and put them in sequence.. u could do it yourself pro5... just get one of the freeware gif animators from download.com and put the two images in sequence with maybe a 1-2 second interval for the image w/ lights off... and a .75 sec. interval for the one w/ lights on... it will simulate a kinda flashing illusion... and should be fairly simple to do... i would have thought mazkid, that turning an avi or mpg or mov into a gif would have been more difficult than combining two images...
