Hey YOU...check your fuel lines

I started up my car this morning with the hood open while it warmed up, just so I could look over things.

Sure as $hit, I found a problem.

"hey, what's all that fuel dripping out?"

the line I have going to my additional fuel rail must have come a tad loose, and fuel was dripping out of it. I tightened it down and all was well. That could have gotten REALLY ugly.

So the moral of the story is: if you effed with your fuel lines, go ahead and check on them...nowish.

This is much better than a "My car went up in a ball of flame like Satan himself farted" thread.

I've had that twice and i found the problem because at higher boost, the fuel would spray out onto the intake mani

I also had this problem. But what happened was my fuel line just magically got a splice in it. I dont know if it was cheap line, or because it was being bent or what. Fuel was spraying out like mad even at an idle. I found the problem when I started to smell fule while driving. I popped the hood and boom a three inch gash in my fule line.?????

jsahyoun....you aren't in the "organized crime" business are you? That might explain the 3inch gash in the line. :) (bad joke)

Kooldino...I went out at lunch and looked over the lines...just for you. Reminder's like this are surprising helpful.

Ouch. I wish there was "high grade" lines you could get. I considered stainless, but i hear they have their own issues.

yea i check regularly as well, the best option i have found is from car quest who gets me 180psi rated hose. I need to replace a few hoses now that i think about it.

What's a standard hose rated at?

i wonder if another industry could help here, besides SS braided lines we use macroline for paintballs gun to transfer the air source, yah it is air going through the lines but they run 800psi of compressed air through it and it seems to be just fine, it is pretty flexible, not quite as much as rubber hose. anyway that mayb be an option although i dont see how they can not have a hose already out for higher pressure fuel setups...

How can I get me some of that? :)

Had a similar experience. Was leaving a friends house and I thought I smelled fuel but my friend said he had just finished using brake cleaner and that might be the smell. Tried to start my car and it would not turn over. Opened the hood and found the fuel line from the auxillary fuel pump that connects to the fuel rail came loose. Bought new clamps to fix. (I keep an extinguisher in the trunk of my car.)

good idea, i was thinking of mounting one of the apillar (evil) hah... if it goes up in flames im just gonna laugh and watch it burn...

I want to get a mini extinguisher to mount somewhere. I have a small kitchen one sitting in the back seat as of that day, but I'd like something permenant. Preferably hideable, and NOT chrome. :D

i know they sell those key chain ones you can fill with water but other then that its just an annoyance hearing it roll around in the back.

Are yo uusing the proper clamps? There is another fuel line you can use but I don't know what it's called. It is used on old VW's and it's a braided line, but not stainless. I got some for my drain tube, you can put standard clapms on it and everything. You can get it at a hydraulic supply store. That's where I picked mine up at, they sell stainless braided line and all hydraulic related parts.

well thats how i burned my civic with an integra motor, luckily i had an extingisher.
Im actually going to go with at steelbraided line covered by Raychem sleeves from fuel cell to fuel rail, with AN fittings.

I'm using the t-bolt style clamps. AFAIK, they're the best. I think it's the way the fitting on the fuel rail Nick made is...it's not barbed, it just has one fat bump to slide the line over.
