It looks like Racing Beat updated their web site this month. Supposedly development is finally finished for their cat back exhaust.

The first units are supposed to be shipping by mid-March...

Actually, the whole pipe from the cat back is bigger, including through the muffler.

The stock MP3 exhaust is 2" piping (stock Protege size) all the way back, including through the muffler.

So, yes, you have to order the whole thing in order to see the benefits. I suppose you might be able to get the portion from the cat to the muffler and keep your stock MP3 muffler, but that'll create a bottle neck.
