Here's a new-b question

I hear the turkey, but I don't know why I should want to kill it. How is it hurting my performance?

read the other threads concerning this. the turkey is the byproduct of compressor surge. compressor surge = bad for turbos

This is my first turbo rig. Why's compressor surge bad? Sounds bad, but why's it bad?

I searched first, didn't find and explaination that made sense.

Is this something you usually hear stock? I haven't done any mods at this early stage, nor have I run the car hard- let it spool up a little to 4k and shift, get a turkey-ish noise in between gears.

K, definately sounds bad. If all MSP's are doing it out of the box and it truly is compressor surge, won't we all blow our turbos?

hehe...from what i've read before, we won't really have a big problem until we run out of warranty. if u really wanna prevent this, go to the how-to forum and read up on how to kill your TURKEYS !

Has anyone really proven this is compressor surge? It seems to me that every MSP would have a dead turbo very quickly if this truly were the case.

I saw the name of the guy who led the project for Callaway recently- gotta find that and try to give him a call.

Perfect example of what keeps this forum from being a good one.

I think the other guy in the other Lexington is right.

Anyway, I've spent a couple hours reading the threads and I've dtermined that nobody here knows. Some folks say its compressor stall, other folks (like Ion Performance) say its just resonance, no biggie.

I think the solution is as follows:

Run the piss out of the car. If it breaks, Mazda fixes free. Sell car at end of warranty or prior if serious problems arise along that way.

I can only imagine what car I'll be lusting after in 3 or 4 years.

To be serious, you're right. No one does know yet. The car's too new and we don't have many serious tuners on our side that want to take the time to devote to the MSP to figure it out. The only thing we have to go on are what members here find out and what the vendors say. However, vendors are here to do one thing primarily, so you have to take that in to consideration.

As far as running the piss out of the car... Many of us have had our MSPs in for service for things that don't normally go wrong on any car for several years and for some, it's been a battle getting things done. I would strongly advise people not to beat the s*** out of their cars yet. There are quite a few kinks in this car that need to be worked out and being a limited run, we can only rely on ourselves and, again, the vendors. Mazda's done with the MSPs as far as they're concerned.

Example, my clutch burned up at around 12k miles. It was a complete and total headache getting it replaced, however, it did finally get done.

Enjoy your car but realize you do have a (somewhat) limited production car. Be careful and don't do anything too terribly stupid.

Edit: Also, you may notice that many of us have a slight "attitude", as some would call it. It's simply due to the amount of new members we have here with MSPs that simply don't seem to share the same connection with the car as many of us that have been around a bit longer have. It's a bit aggrevating when you take something seriously or like something so much yet there are others that seem like they dont really care, they just want to be fastAR and get the PSSSSSTH. See my point? I'm not saying you are one of those people, but you'll catch on quickly if you stick around here.

KID, if you had just posted a decent post like that in the first place, you could have saved rocketspeed alot of time. Instead you'd rather **** up the whole thread and then have the nerve to call me arrogant.

I guess you MSP forum 'veterans' are being dicks in attempts to keep the newbies from coming in. That way you all can bs about how great your cars are, without any newbie spoiling things by telling you how bad it really is.

Look, you like your car, and that's cool. Just don't get so uptight if someone else doesn't like their car just as much. Some members on here are like "the wheel fell off, the engine blew at 1200 miles, and the doors won't shut, but I love my MSP, it's the greatest car ever." An exaggeration, of course, but not everyone is willing to suck it up and be happy they have a problem-plagued car that they are stuck with until it's financially feasible to sell it. This site just has such a bad overall atmosphere...all I want to do is learn about my MSP from guys that have more experience with them.
