help with mpi tuner

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I live in northeast GA just bought the mpi tuner with on having it tuned by a dyno, but Nick strongly recommended i do it myself so the car will maintain driveability. The problem is that i don't know a lot about tuning, so Nick told there are people in GA using the mpi, and said someone might be willing to help me out. If so please do!!!

Do you have it running yet? You are better off tuning on the road, it is easy once you get the hang of it. You want to watch the analog out voltage on the left of the software. At idle while the engine is warm and the A/C off, you want it to be around 2.08v You raise or lower the numbers to change that voltage.

The stock injector tuning is on the Analog tab, the injection tab is for xtra injectors if you have then and the ignition is where you retard timing. You want to do your fuel tuning on the analog tab and that's where you tune the 2.08v The red cursor box will move with RPM and throttle position. The red box should be in the first column, the 2nd box up.

The switch point is adjusted in the switch tab in the global settings. The switch kicks the car in open loop and adds a bunch of fuel. You want it to come on around 1-2 psi. You watch the 1x16 column on the igniton tab and wherever the red box is when you hit 1-2psi, that should be the switch number. It may take some playing around to get it.

So what kit/setup do you have? More detail will help, I can give you a BASE map that you can start with, but you will need to tune that map for your setup. What boost, turbo, and anything else you have will help. There is more to tuning, but you need to start with the basics first.

don't know if u mean overall whp or just from the tuner, but i don't really have an overall goal in mind, but i'd like to get at least 15 whp with the tuner and hopefully 20 lbs of torque

and to Big Tim i plan on going n/a, and i just ordered it last friday, it should be here by this thursday. can't wait to get started!

Ah so you are not boosted. Okay, lot of us who do run the mpi have turbo kits, but nonetheless, we will still try to help ya out.

Oh, an N/A setup. Okay, so don't worry about the stuff above. When you install it, all you will need to do is adjust the fuel and timing to where you want it. To add fuel you use negative numbers and to remove fuel you use positive numbers in the analog tab. The ignition tab still works the same, neg numbers pull timing and positive numbers add timing.

You will be tuning via the O2 sensor, so you cannot use most maps posted. I believe Nick will provide a decent map for you to start with. There are a couple users on here that are N/A so maybe you can get one of their maps to start with. I may have a map for you to use, but I will have to check later.
