choose Last Known Good Confirguration

"Last known good configuration" will not restore is ****** up registry, "Last Known good" pretty just keeps track of driver setting/information and changes to the registry/hive key "hkey_users" and "hkey_localmachine"

Umm...it pretty much only does your ass good if you install a new device that ***** your system up, and you need to get back into it to uninstall it.

As far as backing up the registry you can just use the windows back up option under system tools to do it.

Also, as far as the whole using an XP Pro installation to repair your home...don't do it as it will not work. Even though they both run off an NT Kernal the operating systems are different enough to where it won't do you any good, and could cause more problems. In an easy way of explaining, the files that come with XP Home's registry are ever so slighty different than those of the XP Pro.

Sorry to tell you but the only way for this to work out is to either completely dump the HDD or get a copy of XP Home and do it that way.

Thanks to flypinoy7, I fixed the problem.. sorta. I ended up wiping everything, and I threw XP Pro on there for him.
