HELP-Whistle sound from engine bay

Wow, I never would've thought someone else had this problem. I have the exact same sound. It also goes away if I pinch the wastegate line. Thinking there was a tiny hole or crack, I replaced that line with a new one but the sound was still there. So, my tech friend believes it's a pinhole in the diaphram of the wastegate. I haven't gotten a chance to take it to the dealer yet (also need to put back on my factory line). If you do before me, lemme know what they say. I'll do the same.

I am going to make a trip to the dealer at the end of next week. I have to put the stock air box back on. I was thinking that it was the wastegate because it only goes away if you cut off its supply. I will let you know if i find out whats wrong.

hmm, same problem here except I dunno if I'm lossing boost cause I've got no gauge. keep us updated.

edit- mine's under boost usually around 4.5-5K though... not at idle

my brother is having a smiliary issue, just not at idle, loud high pitch whistling noise over 4k, taking it in to service dept on wednesday along with oil change & tire rotation.

well i took a drive to PA last week and that sound has not returned, but I threw a CEL yesterday. Tomorrow I am taking the CAI off and making an apointment. The car drives fine so I do not know what the problem is. I will let you all know.

i wanna know how fuel has anything to do with a whistling noise. sounds possible, but not in my brother's case. his makes the whistling noise under boost.

I took it in to the local stealership and they were too busy to look at my car so blah. But I took it to a speed shop and asked a knowledgable guy there and he inspected it and there appears to be some sort of leak from the exhaust manifold area. There is also a ticking noise associated with the problem at idle. I push down on the manifold's heat shield and it goes away. I thought it was just rattling but he tightened it down. It still makes the noise. We then noticed some sort of green/white ressidue above the manifold on the block. It appears the manifold is leaking. This may be the cause for the whistle on my bro's MSP... Now I have to reschedule to take the car in to the dealership to have it looked at again even though it probably won't do any good because they have to call out a Mazdaspeed tech to actually have work done to it.

well the dealership told me the CEL might be fuel related and wanted me to run some more gas through. I took the car back and did that and the CEL has come on and off thre times so far in one tank of gas. I am bringiong it back on Wed. I will let you all know what happens. The whistle has still not returned...not sure where it went

sorry for threadjack, but our cars run about 22 lbs vac presure... isn't that a bit much? i thought that was odd at first
Passats run at 20 so in my completely non-expertise in vac pressure i'd say tahts about normal...

Got the car back after ten days and heres what was up. There were three different codes in the ECU.
The first one they could not trace back to anything specific.
The second one was linked to an intake silinoid which they replaced.
The third was becuase of a bad o2 sensor.

So far the CEL has not come back on and things are still running good.

hey, i also get the whistle sound between 4k and 5k rpm but i always thought it was turbo spinning .... now i see other people mention this so it kinda got me worried

any ideas ?

I have a similar loud noise at idle now. It's very LOUD and seems to go away when boost is present.

The difference with mine is the car has a bouncing/surging idle and won't drop below 2,000 RPM. :'(

I have a whistle (or more like a whine), but it's only there at throttle & is loudest around 2k RPMs (4th gear is the worst). I'm also only showing 5psi (initial spike to 6). I've been trying to find time to take it to the dealer because I also have a few other things that are bothering me with the car.

My car just started whistling at idle. Only starts after car is driven awhile.
When I got to work today I pulled it in shop and checked it. The sound is
definately coming from acuator. I listened with stethoscope and everything
else sounds fine. Its pulling 22 lbs. vacuum and sound goes away when any throttle applied.
