Help! Transmission problems?

So here's the situation...

Over the past few months i've noticed some problems with my stock '02 mp5 (it's an automatic btw):

1. rough idling (the car even sometimes shuts off completely at stop signs/redlights after driving a couple of miles from a cold start)
2. over reving/not shifting soon enough (sometimes gets up to 5krpms before shifts in 1st & 2nd gear)
3. VERY bad gas mileage. I noticed on the highway i'm getting about 25mpg, and in the city i get about 18mpg.
4. about 75% of the time when i turn my car on from a cold start (overnight), i here this grinding noice that sounds like a beard trimmer almost coming from under the hood. it goes away after about 20-30 seconds, and the noise is consistent in park, reverse, and drive.

within the past 6 months i've had all my fluids flushed including power steering, transmission, brakes, etc. i just had a tune up a month ago, including new air filter. all the belts/hoses were replaced, except for timing belt (timing belt however is ok, and doesnt need replacement), i change my oil regularly. the car has about 80k miles on it, and i dont drive it hard at all.

anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what the problem could be, before i take it into a shop?

Part of your problem is carbon buildup, especially in the EGR. I'm sure other people will be better explaining it. Reset the ECU as well. Some other people can explain that too.

i think i've used every single time of engine cleaner/carbon cleaner that they sell. idk...it doesnt seem to help any at all. i was told by someone that it might be my torque converter

man i had the same problem, had to have a trasmission rebuild and a couple gears were gone, it was so expensive i thought about selling the damn thing, i actually bought a 07 civic as my main car and i got the 5 fixed and am keeping it as a 2nd car

thats wut u get for driving an automatic (glare) lol jk
i had crappy idle and it would stall sometimes at red lights until i cleaned the MAF sensor. ran some seafoam through a vacuum hose the other day too, that helped alot

I find that interesting your and other are having problems. I drive my car aggressively and have yet to need to clean the egr (103,000 miles). I mean I have done oil changes, spark plug changes (only use NGK, no Bosch), changed the timing belt/water pump/thermostat/tensioner spring/tensioner/idler/hoses, and good tires. i also occassionally use fuel system cleaner. I too have a 02 AT as well. I hope you figure it out.
