Mazda 3 2005
Hello guys, I have a 05 Mazda 3 passed on to me by my dad.Im in the phase of modding it currently.I am from Nepal, we do not get peformance parts from brands like HKS,Cobbsport... It sucks here :(
So, i just bought an exhaust, because i thought the tip looked cool lol. I was about to buy the old school round tip but i bought a rectangular oval shaped one just for a change. The seller told that the sound would be pretty loud but i didnt believe him much because the exhaust itself was very heavy and and the barrel had a very thick layer of filter. When i fitted it(welded it) i had no change in sound.
My question here is, the exhaust itself has a muffer, so can i cut off the old exhasut muffler of my car and replace it with a straight pipe to gain sound?
Or DO i have to cut off the Resonator? Does it affects mileage too?

Cut oem muffler add straight pipe. That will give you more sound.
Need more sound? Cut the second cat or upgrade to a vibrant header.
Do not cut the resonator or it will have too much rasp and sound terrible and drone.
Good luck

Hi Akito, thanks for the advice.
Also, while i installed this exhaust it had no sound change and my mileage dropped very badly, if i cut off the oem muffler will I gain better sound and better mileage too?

Hi
So all you did so far was:cut oem tip piping and added a sport muffler to the oem exhaust system?

That square box before the rear axle it's the stock oem muffler.

If you want the sport muffler to give its sound, you must remove the stock muffler (box muffler) and replace it with a
Pipe.
But that alone will only give you a difference in sound. I would recommend to just replace oem muffler system with a cork sport or srs catback exhaust. But I read you really like that oval exhaust so since you already got it installed just replace oem muffler with a same inner diameter piping.GL

Hey Akito, you really turned out to be a liversaver replying my each post. Thanks alot.
I understand the whole exhaust system mechanism but i as in other cars i believe they have 2 mufflers and our Mazda's have 1 muffler right? so the workshop just installed the exhaust without cutting off the oem muffer and replacing it with a straight pipe. I got so frustrated at first cause, all my money was gone on it, also the mileage now i have is 5 kilometers per litre. This sucks!!
And also, we do not get corksport,SRS exhaust as you were refering me to in Nepal. We get nothing here, only the exterior modification accessories.

My question now is, will i get better mileage after cutting off the oem muffler and replacing it with a straight pipe. This is my last question to you man, I've been bothering you since days. Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks again Akito

It is doubtful that you will gain any mileage by removing the muffler. Having a slightly better airflow may increase your mileage, but there are way to many other factors that affect it much more.

Hes Right, corksport rep above its a profesional on exhaust system.
may I ask, do you have an engine light on the cluster?
Issues that will give bad gas mileage are bad O2 sensors, blocked cat converter
Running too rich, Not performing tune ups, or even under inflated tires will affect gas mileage
Please check for this hopefully you will get your mpk back.

As, installing the new exhaust has decreased my mileage, i was asking if deleting the oem muffer will help me gain back my previous mileage.

No, I Dont have the engine light ON on the cluster.
Thanks both of you for helping me out!
