HELP NEEDED: I'm a noob when it comes to cars.

I have a 2001 mazda protege 2.0. (forest green) I'm not sure what model specification it is though. Picked it up in '08 with 55,000 miles for around 5,500 cash. I thought it was a great deal and have been very pleased with the car and its power and handling.

1.) I don't know hardly anything about cars/engines. If any of you guys can tell me more information about my car (rough HP estimate, what edition (lx, es??) and any other randoms that'd be great

2.) Also if anyone has suggestions for any performance mods that would make the car faster, healthier, etc... That is, cheap, easy mods under $500 (I'm not trying to rice it out.)

3.) I'm going to get a tint, what would you suggest? My friend is good at tint, what pre-cut tint would you suggest that is quality but affordable?(I live in Ohio where the front windows have to be >50, but I think I want either 35 all the way around or 35 in the front and 20 in the back)

Anyways, thanks for your help, I appreciate it. O by the way, it is a manual (yay)

The 2.0 have an estimated 130HP

You should be able to see what model you have since it our cars have the model letter in the front fenders between the door and wheel gap. It will be hard for use to tell identify what you have unless you post a picture of the car.

The mods that are Below $500 are

-CAI(Cold Air Intake) or SIR(Short Ram Intake)

-Exhaust System

There are more mods but this are the one I can think of at the moment below $500.

u can throw a cone filter on the end of the maf for 30 bucks, easy cheap and effective

i got my exhaust done for ~$230 bucks( $140 muffler $90 for 2.5" piping)

You can get a header from Dave(***************) for $175 shipped.

What muffler did you got for $140? and did you get the 2.5"piping custom made at a shop or you ordered online?

I need to change the cat on my car and I was thinking on upgrading the piping at the same time, but I don't know what to get. I don't know what is the stock piping size, but the other day I got a 3" muffler 2" inlet from Pepboys for $30 half price because it was open box or something even though it have never been used. I might return it and get something else since if I upgrade to 2.5" piping it will become a bottle neck.

Do you think that it will work if I keep that exhaust or should I get an exhaust with an 2.5 Inlet? Also what type of catalytic converter do you recommend me to get?

^ So you kept the factory cat? or did you get an universal one welded into the 2.5 piping?

factory cat because i forgot to tell the guy to check if he can do a cat delete, or else id be driving catless
