Help me pick my exhaust system!

Yeah, the midpipe replaces the 2nd cat. The 1st cat is on the exhaust manifold itself. Cat-back means what it sounds like.

I knew the corksport relaced the 2nd cat, so I just assumed the racing beat did as well, since it looks pretty much the same length. Damn! More money I gotta spend to get rid of that damn cat. So the only thing between my header and RB is the 2nd cat? This is where I could have a test pipe made right?

yup. It's also where MAM's midpipe is located. Just be aware that putting a straight pipe or even a high-flow cat through there will increase the loudness of the exhaust.

would it still keep a deep tone though or does getting rid of the cats turn it into a moped sound?

No, buzzy/moped-ness is controlled by the muffler (and in my case exhaust leaks) Removing the cats will just make it hella loud, but not ricey.

hey....you said you have the magnaflow with a mam midpipe....how were you able to fit this.....because the mam midpipe is 2.5 and the magnaflow is 2.25.....only reason y i ask is because i have the magnaflow as well and i want to get a midpipe but everywhere i look....they are 2.5......so i figured i would have to have one custom made....

please explain to me!!

The flanges are the same. All flanges on aftermarket exhausts are designed to bolt right up to factory, and this makes them all compatible with eachother.

so the mam 2.5 will bolt right up to my magnaflow 2.25.....awesome....i know what my next mod will be....

question.....is this the same for the downpipe...

nevermind....just relized what i was thinking...... the downpipe 2.5 will bolt to the midpipe 2.5 and midpipe to catback 2.25 ....so DUH the downpipe will fit the midpipe....

Why are you buying a downpipe instead of a header? Just out of curiosity.

If you're buying an OBX header you don't need a downpipe. The downpipe is only used for the Wagner Shorty header.

I don't know if you're being serious or not, but the way it works is either
Head>OBX, Ractive, etc header>Midpipe>catback

OR

Head>wagner shorty header>downpipe>midpipe>catback

not sure if anyone has thrown this in but you could always get a megan racing cat back exhaust for the p5

will the MAM or wagner mid pipe connect to any after market cat-back exhaust or will there be fitment issues? i am wondering because i am thinking of doing a cat back and getting a mid pipe as well either MAM or wagner but id like it to be emissions legal so we shall see. this is just an idea. thanks for the answers when i do get them.

yeah i was being serious.....so best bet would be go.....obx header-mam midpipe-magnaflow exhaust.....

so no need for downpipe.....awesome....saves me money!!!!

Header I believe is 2.5" diameter pipe connecting to the 2nd cat. MAM's hi-flow midpipe is also 2.5" diameter. Magnaflow exhaust is 2.25" diameter. It'll fit.

I don't know if I ever answered this in another thread, but yes. Not only was it insanely loud, but it sounded like ass. I was ashamed to put any load on the engine when there were other people around.
