Help me pick my exhaust system!

Thanks for the compliment hehe. Before I dump $ in stuff I try to get an idea of what it'll look/sound/feel/taste/smell like hehe.

So far everyone says get the Racing Beat. Do you feel it's worth the extra $100 to go for that? And what is your justification (i.e. have you compared yours to someone else's at a meet)?

I'm very happy with my RB. Definitely worth the extra $$$ just for the deep quiet tone. And its not too loud even with a header.
Mine smelt a bit like burnt chicken for about a week after install... didn't go as far as to taste it though :D

Only thing i don't like about it is that it's heavier than the stock system.

i beleive sp2 is for msp and evo2 is for p5 but i could be wrong. but i think if sp2 is a lil cut then it could fit p5 unsure though. i am guessing on this since msp exhaust has been put on p5's with some cutting cause of length.

Greddy Sp2 will not fit P5 without cutting......its only made for the MSP.....Greddy has the EVO or the EVo 2 that will fit the P5......

if you wanna spend extra money for it to sound the same as the Magnaflow...go right ahead....like i said i have the magnaflow....and i know 2 people that have the Greddy......line em up next to each other they sound the same.....

since you pm'd me - dont forget the importance of resonators.

if you get straight through resonators (most good ones) you wont loose power. i've seen tests where they went from no resonators to 1 resonator and then 2 resonators and they lost a massive 0.1whp. big deal!!! and the car sounds far far better.

in terms of which system to get, dont forget the option of going totally custom. probably cheaper than a name system in the end...

thanks for the info! Are resonators kind of a generic item that I could get welded on at any exhaust shop? Just specify pipe diameter and cut?

Positive rep for you!

The Migen exhaust on Beau's P5 sounds nice. Not too loud or high pitched. It is 2.5 diameter. I am putting that on mine when we put the MAM sleeper turbo system on.

yeah resonators are generic. so long as the internal diam is the same or bigger than your pipe's internal diam you'll be right. they take a very short time to install - simply cut the pipe and weld in the resonator. pretty easy.

just make sure that you have a look at the resonator the exhaust shop uses. it mightnt be a straight through one or might have a smaller internal diam - ie the pipe coming from the reonsator is enlgarged but the resonator itself is still 2" internal diam etc

right key is to keep the internal diameter (what exhaust gas flows through) the same throughout. So that means 2.5" midpipe -> 2.5" resonator -> 2.5" catback exhaust

Right?

I have a Magnaflow cat back with the MAM midpipe and OBX header. Right now there,s a nasty sounding leak in it, but hopefully that will be fixed in the next week or so. Then it will hopefully be a lot better sounding, cause it's absolute ass right now. First time since I bought the car I've been ashamed to drive it.

Can anyone post up a link to or a picture of the magnaflow exhaust? How bout the Racing Beat? I found a good pic of Bosal so that's good :)

Thanks!

riiight.

Anyways I'm trying to figure out which system has the least bends in it so to speak. Less bends = more flowage right?

well if anyone was interested, I went ahead and picked up a magnaflow cat-back. I like the sound, though at first I thought it was way too loud. It's actually quieted down and I've put about 1k miles on it (drove it in the mazda team road rally).

I just ordered the racing beat today. I'd like to hear your magnaflow sometime. Sooner or later, I'll make it to 1 of your meets.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the RB eliminates the 2nd cat, and has only a resonator correct? What would be the benefit of adding a midpipe to this setup? Sorry to T/J.

The Racing Beat is also a cat-back system, so it does not eliminate the 2nd cat. The only exhaust system I know that does this is corksport's power series exhaust...

And I'd love to hear yours freshly installed, too.
