I took the dog running yesterday and lost my powerlock keyfob! I would really like this replaced as I've already had my car broken into once.

I called the dealership and they quoted me $64 for a new keyfob and $45 to program it (Which they said would deactivate my old one). Thats over $100!!!!

Do I have any options to get this done for cheaper? Can I buy this thing online and how hard is it to program?

Please help, I don't want to spend $100 on this stupid thing!

dude, you have 4500+ posts and you've been here for almost 3 years

NOT going to give you a break.... GO SEARCH!

Well I "searched" on ebay and found several fobs. I actually found some threads on here dealing with it to but I want to know if any fob will work or does it have to match my car or something. Also I've seen conflicting posts on weather programming 1 new for or 2 will make my old one non-functional.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm about to order one but I'm not sure if it's compatible with my vehicle. It says to check the back of your current remote but my current remote is lost. What is the easiest way to check if what I'm ordering is compatible?

Thanks.

in all fairness, the search feature has gone down in quality quiet a bit, even putting highly detailed criteria gives 20+ pages of results

Yeah that's exactly the problem I have, nobody wants to scroll through pages and pages to get an answer, and sometimes you then have to scroll through pages of a specific thread to get the answer, that can hardly be considered user friendly.

Pat.

Thanks for the sympathy guys. Searching gets annoying when all you get is a ton of info to sift through. I ordered a fob of ebay for $13 shipped. Hopefully I can figure out how to program it and it works with my car.

My wife has a 2003 MP5 and we bought an extra remote from ebay and used the programing instructions given and it works fine.

I've found searching on these forums to be much easier if you go this route:

Search>Advanced Search>Enter key words>Hit dropdown for "Search titles only"

much less dribble to go through.

Hi, a little off topic but... I just bought a used 2002 MP5 yesterday and the original owner said he didn't have a remote entry key fob. Is this an option or standard on all MP5's?

i have the directions too, if you need them.

Well I got the remote today and tried to program it to no avail. I think I got one thats not compatible with my car or something. My dealer said the visteon numbers on the back did not match.

That was the whole purpose of me starting this thread was to make sure I was ordering a key that was compatible with my car.

Is there any way to guarantee what i'm odering is compatible with my vehicle?

The instructions to program the remote seemed to work though. Remote just did not respond.
