help get this @#$% off my car

getting sap off your car

Hey I actually detail cars on the side for extra cash.........what to do about the sap is use a little bit of gas or wd-40 on a rag and gently rub it over the spots!! Make sure not to scrub too hard because it can damage your paint.........but if you are gentle it will definately work. And oh yeah, wash your car directly after!!

I'm really surprised you said use gas or wd-40. For one gas will kill the clear coat and haze it over. Two I don't really see where wd-40 is much better, or safer for that matter. I would use a small amount of a clear coat scrub or maybe some spray on Turtle wax bug and tar remover. Both will do a good job and no worries about hazing or scratching the clear coat. Just whatever you do don't mistake clear coat cleaner for a "rubbing compund" the hard rubbing compund will scratch the hell outta the clear and leave giant swirls.

Anything that can ruin my paint job if I do it too much is not something I'm gonna put on my car either! There are a number of specific products in the car cleaning section at your local automotive store specifically geared towards removal of tar and sap like the already mentioned Turtle product....spend the few bucks and do it right as you don't want to ruin that sweet paint job.

Hey guys,

I know it sounds bad........I agree with you when you say use the bug and tar remover stuff but trust me the gas and wd40 used wisely will work without affecting the paint. Try the bug and tar remover first if it doesn't work the slight use of gas will. They were right when they said DO NOT use rubbing compound!!

Im gonna get the bug and tar remover.... My dad swears I'm wasting my money, and tells me to use the WD-40

thanks guys

never park under a tree!

Sap will ruin your paint. If you've ever parked under an oak tree, there will be tiny little sap dropplets all over your car. They look like little drops of water mist or something. It sucks.

Well you can think of it this way katsmp3....in the life of your car I'm sure you'll have sap or tar get on it many times so you'll end up using that stuff often enough to make it a worthwhile purchase.

Here's an odd recommendation, but you might give it a whirl. Go to a motorcycle shop, preferably one that carries honda stuff, and ask for Honda Pro-Clean. I use this stuff on everything and it works like a charm. Removes tar, sap, bugs, everything, and doesn't eat the paint. It also does a little to improve the shine. I use it on my bike, waverunner, and car.
Just a thought, but at 5-7 dollars a can, it's worth every penny!
