Hello and question about2003 Mazda6s service

I just found this forum. I'm the happy owner of a 2003 Mazda6s sedan (automatic transmission). I have just hit 60,000 miles and I know that when I go for my next oil change, the dealer is going to pressure me to do the 60,000 mile service. I read my owner's manual and it says that the only things I should need are an oil change and an air filter (which I plan to get). Is there any reason to pay that exhorbitant amount of money for the routine service they recommend? I'm thinking that it is a ripoff, but I don't want to abuse my car either.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

How long are you planning on keeping the car? If your going to keep it until it dies...

I'd go ahead and change out the manual transmission fluid if you haven't yet.
I'd also do a flush and replacement of the coolant fluid.

Both are 100k service intervals, which is far far too long. Since your going on 60k, if you haven't done either yet, I'd plan to do them soon.

Also if your spark plugs haven't been replaced...probably a good time to do that as well.

Also if you've never run any fuel injector cleaners...do that too :).

Thanks for your advice. You're right - it certainly can't hurt to get that stuff done. I just hate paying $600 or more for their "service" package that mostly includes inspections that they do for free at every oil change anyway. I plan on keeping the car until it is near death or at a minimum until it is paid for in 3 more years.
