Hella Horn Install

Yeah, they were basically 2 strips with a hole in each end and I used a single bolt thru both of them and the radiator support where it already had a hole. They sit side by side touching behind bumper between upper and lower grills or behind where license plate mounts to bumper. Definitely more out of weather and plain sight. They do not sound any quieter there.

Cool...thanks! Did you get the trumpet style or supertones?

supertones, but thinking about making the swap to the trumpets if the good reviews keep comin..........and I did make me a small harness out of the clips that came with the horns. It plugs into spade that the oem unplugged from.

Got them installed last night. It took a little bit of adjusting here and there to make sure they cleared the grill trays and grill itself. They sound significantly louder than the puny stock horn. It went from "MEEP-MEEP" to "WHONK-WHONK!!!"

Yeah...I spent a couple bucks at Lowes on some hardware and went a little overboard with new wire, connectors, and etc. to make sure things hold up OK over time. Really satisfied with the sound and final result. Especially not having to trim the grill.

Hank, what hardware and connectors did you pick up? I got twin trumpets in the mail with the relay last week. I'm going to pick up 10 gauge wires and connectors tonight. Is there anything that I should look out for?

I can't recall exactly the size bolts, nuts, and washers I picked up from Lowes. I think I pretty much eyeballed it and made sure the bolt would go through the hole in the chassis. And I think I went with 10-gauge wire as well. Picked up some male and female spade connectors and ring terminals. If you use one bracket per horn, it hits the grill, but if it's too long it vibrates too much, so I used a good amount of electrical tape to wrap the overlapping brackets and used a zip tie as well.

Those help a twin tone horns are great, but I still prefer a supertone personally. More decibals and bang for the bucl than the twin tones and hold up to abuse more. I sell them both for a living and am tied in with the.guys from rallylights.com, so I have a lot of experience with both

To answer your.questions about using the relay (with either horn), it isn't necessary. They will operate without the supplied relay and will work with factory wiring no problems at all.

I for one do not prefer the supertones to what those trumpets sound like. I will be switching mine out at some point when there is a lull in the ongoing modfest between truck, car and bikes...........

Trumpet horns all the way. I wasn't crazy about the sound of the Supertones when I had them on my WRX even though their decibel rating is higher. I like a fuller sound instead of having something that goes "meep."

Yessir...all it is is louder stereo meeps...no likey. Yours actually sounds like a horn. I want a horn, not a beeper....meeper
