Heater & Stereo dead?

Hey guys,

As some of you may know a few weeks ago my stereo lost all power. Since then I have checked the fuse and aven replaced it but to no avail, still gets no power. Is there a separate fuse connected to the deck itself?

Also, I noticed that as of a few days ago my heater won't heat up the air anymore! WTF? ahah I mean I've had some POS cars before but the heater has always worked. I also checked that fuse and all seems well.

Any ideas?

I don't know about the deck...but the heater? that is not even an electrical function....I mean you do NOT even need the fan to get heat.....seeing as how the heat actually comes from the engine....IF the cable is hooked up properly...and when you turn the TEMP knob it moves the cable and actually opens the flapper to allow air to enter into the HVAC system from the heater core...you should have hot air....

so...does your fans work? if so....I would be checking the cables on the control module on the dash....its possible that the cable has become disconnected, on one end or the other.

Went in and took off the face and popped it back on. Suprisingly the heat kicked in.... Wierd  ;)

But still no luck with the stereo. I was looking over the manual and was about to take the deck out to see what I might find there, but to my suprise I couldn't find my accessory 10's.. ahhaa.. The little hook screw's that screw into each end of the face so you can pull it out in one piece. If anyone else got these where were they in your car? If mazda even jipped me (rant) hehe

yea there is a fuse on the back of teh deck you need to pull the deck out and check it its a pain to take it out the molden pops off and there are a few screws to take off how thats was the problem and u should check all the fuse under the dash there could be a bad one its not allways the deck fuse it could be anothert one thanks

One time I had my MP3's kenwood deck out and the power wire shorted to the radio mounting bracket. The fuse I thought would have blown didn't. It turned out to be another fuse in the fuse box the went. Just look through them all. Use a test light clipped to Gnd and check both sides of the fuses until you find the dead one.

Also, if you need to take the kenwood deck out, get 2 really long screws (I think they are 4mm, I bought 3mm and 5mm just in case) screw them into the 2 holes on the front of the deck until they stop, then pull on the screws to remove the deck. I used 2 pairs of vise grips to pull on the screws.
The deck should slide out.

Good luck.

Tim

Hmmm... No fuses bad in the drivers side panel fuse box. I'll check the main fise box after work... On another note- last night while taking a look at the heater I left both map lights, and the dome light on after I was done.... Battery didn't like that too much this morning. Care won't start. Don't have cables. Not sure how getting to work. :'(

well this is probably too late...but dude....your car IS a standard......PUSH START IT!

i already have been through 2 z919 and mine is f'd up again, the one time it lit up just it mad no noise. i'd get a voltage tester and check if you have power to the radio that way if u do, you probally just need a new radio. if there is no power keep searchin. Sir Nuke is right since it is manual u just need to get rollin then let out the clutch. putt....putt....puttt....vroooom!

Bhaha, thanks... :)

I actually got a buddy to come jump start me. You wouldn't belive how much my map lights melted the plastic lense casing (since they were on all night).... But that is my fault- If I remember right they are supposed to be 12V 5W I put 12V 15W bulbs in there.

You really need to find out if you have 12 volts at the radio before preceeding, also did you check with the dealer to see if they would warrenty replace the radio?

if the heater problem occurs again, just pop out the glove box and reach around to make sure all of the connections are still attatched. i had this problem, and it was because it came unplugged. the glove box can be taken out by opening it and pushing the top corners of the box together. no tools needed!

"jsr" thanks for the info on the heater. I'll check my connections tonight. It seems wierd that it takes over 10 minutes to even become warm air.

I turned my car on this morning and to my suprise my stereo turned on. So I cranked it and enjoyed it while I could. It's kind of like Christmas morning everyday- I never know if I'll get to hear music or not.

Mazda didn't have a wireharness adapter when they put the Z919 in our cars so they used a soilder board. I am wondering if that board muight be grounding out the ignition power wire. Possibly grounding on something in the ac system. I'd pull the radio out an reconnect everything with a metra wire harness.
