Headlights and Taillights on with Ignition?

Hi All,

I searched and found a few threads about Daytime Running Lights but I'm looking for something "plug and play" that would turn on the Mazda5 headlights and taillights when I start the car. It would behave as though the lights were on unless I turned the switch to only the middle 'parking lights' switch, in which case it would turn off the headlights but leave parking lights on. Basically it makes the 'On' and 'Off' positions act the same way, but they go off when you turn the ignition off.

Alternately (and maybe better), something that would allow me to always leave the light switch turned to "on" but kill the lights when I turn off the vehicle.

After years of driving Volvos that do this automatically (and most have an option to disable it for those that hate using up bulb life), we find that we often forget to turn the lights on in situations other than the dark of night (i.e. - rain, fog, etc.)

Thanks for any advice!
Mike

Okay, even not plug-and-play. Anyone? A DIY writeup or something? I guess I could go through Volvo wiring diagrams and compare them to the 5. Anyone have Mazda 5 ignition / headlight circuit diagrams posted somewhere?

Ive seen a kit that clips to the ignition wire selling at the old radioshack but I dont know if applicable to M5 since were using powerpacks. Try radioshack/source on the net.

Thanks! This is great. You guys are excellent.

I'll check out radio shack. I'm also considering using the DEI Nite-Lite kit and just leaving out the photocell, completing the circuit. I'm sure there are easier ways, now that I can look at the diagrams.

Thanks again Protege_Kid!

That headlamp wiring diagram might explain why some of your BCMs are burning out. You might want to ground 2C and 2E as well from the BCM.
