Headlight Moisture

Has anyone else had condensation issues with their p5's? I've had mine since February and noticed today that the ENTIRE lens was covered in condensation. I took out the high beam bulb and used a hair dryer to dry it out for now. Also, are there any sealed units available aftermarket at all? Where would I get them?

Thanks,
Pablo

The Moisture....

Hey Man,

I have had my P5 for almost a year and have not had that problem even after the toughest of rain storms. But another car of mine did....You have a bad seal around the housing somehow and it should "definitely" be covered under warranty. Take it to your dealer when you notice it and they should replace the entire housing or at least fix your current one with a new seal....but probably easier to replace the whole unit.....Good luck

Actually, BOTH units were full of condensation...and I did run through some high water last night(we got flooded) but it wasn't over the grill....in fact, I had noticed that my headlights didn't seem as effective within the last few weeks, but i thought nothing of it, figured it was the street lights ******* with me...I sure hope it's covered under warranty...especially considering i caved in and got the extended warranty...thanks for the advice.

do you have strobes? did you drill holes for the strobes?
did you replace your stock bulbs with aftermarket? if so, then it might not make a good seal in the back of the headlight assembly. check it out. if everything is stock, they'll replace it. if you had strobes installed, you are on your own.

Ive had some condensation issues on my P5. It hasnt been doing it lately, but now I have small dots on the inside of the headlight. Its covered on your warranty, but make sure you have the stock bulbs on when you take it back. I have to take out my aftermarket bulbs before i go. Good luck!

Ok, here's the story I got from the dealership. Apparently our headlight units (according to the service writer I met) have what he calls "vents". These vents can get moisture in them and that causes the condensation inside the unit. I'm going in on wednesday to have the units checked for leaks (i'm very suspicious of all of this mind you) so I'll post something regarding that pending the results of this "test". I just wonder what's the point of having a sealed unit if you're going to put vents underneath that will pick up moisture anyway. By the way, no, I didn't install strobes or aftermarket bulbs. The only thing that I did odd was drive through some deep water. Not enough to flood the engine, just deep enough to make it want to stall but the car never got stuck and I pulled off onto higher ground. The water level never went over the lowest lugnut on the wheels. I'm still suspicious of these magical "vents" we're supposed to have. Oh well, wish me luck.
