2003 protege 5
ok I wrecked my p5 so i bought these new black diamond jdm headlights off of ebay. they are for a protege and i have a protege 5. the lights look and fit great but the problem is with the hi/low beams. I only have low beams. has anyone bought and installed these on their p5??. there are seprate wires for the hi and low and also on the stock headlights there are two housings inside the headlamps one housing for hi and one for low but on the new jdm there is just one housing. the hi/low share the same with a two fillament bulb. It seems like i will have to splice the hi beam wire into the low beam wire. but im not sure i need some help please.

you shouldn't be using the H4 bulb because it is a single filament bulb. You need to get the bulb for a sedan (dual filament). Yes, you'll have to combine the wiring. PM thewrench. He's not on much, but he's done the conversion.

You need to buy a new headlight harnesss for an H4 bulb. It is a dual filament bulb, so it will give you both hi and low beams.
offtopic-
Do you want to sell me your P5 headlights?

you do not need to buy a new harness, you can do the splicing. it has been done here but i personally do not know what is entailed in doing it.

i personally think the protege5 headlights look best when painted black, or swapped with canadian units.

i thought H4 were the single filament bulb in the P5 low beam?

H4 is the sedans dual filament bulb, the H7 is the single filament P5 bulb

why would we have a dual filament low beam? If that's not how it is, what bulbs do we use?

Word. That's what I did, I painted my housings black & called it a day.
I'm guessing the C-spec ones are already black?

Since he got a Sedan housing that only has one bulb, it needs to be dual filament to have both high and low beams in it.
And you don't use a dual filament low beam, in the P5 its just a single filament, you use 2 bulbs one for high one for low, the low is an H7, and i can't remember what the high is.
