Cold start I get a little blue smoke out the back side. Great compression so may be stem seals. Timing belt and water pump already done. Anything I should do while the heads off? Motors stock btw besides cai. Header otw for when heads done. At machine shop, is it worth port and polish on this 2.0? Anything else they could do while they have it?

Also if anyone had any motor mounts im gonna need all of them.ha-ha. Or point me in a good direction for the best bang for buck.

Hmm. I'm prob gonna go aftermarket. Thank you tho googoo. Looking so see what brand you guys use for the mounts mostly.

Personally I have two protgs the msp has AWR 70a they are good not too much vibration the MP3 has medieval mounts those are super stiff and there is a good amount of vibration but I kinda like it haha

I highly recommend for you to do your piston and oil rings while your at it.
did the same thing on my p5 2 weeks ago. I actually got the head rebuilt and before taking it out I did a compression test and it came out perfect, but when I put it back together it was still smoking. I heard that even though my compression came out great the oil rings on the pistons might be going bad. so now I have to redo everything(pissed). so I highly recommend for you to just buy a set of replacement piston online for $100 and it already comes with the piston rings, buy forged pistons and rods or high comp pistons if you're going N/A, or just buy a set of piston rings and change them.

So basically if I don't have a budget to go ahead an out rings on there's no sence? Was gonna pull head and do stems and lap myself.. May just wait on motor then. Do need moto mounts and few more other off ends.its not smoking bad at all. Just a light puff when it first starts. Was gonna to intake delete as well when head was off. But definitely don't want to have to take it all off again.

Oil rings are usually the culprit if the smoke doesn't dissipate within a couple seconds.

1st Since you're taking your head out, you will have to at least get it resurface b4 putting it back in.
2nd How does taking advantage that your head is out already and spending an extra $30 on new piston and oil rings and making sure your car wont give you any headaches for years doesn't make since?
3rd why spend money on another used motor when you can just drop the same amount of money or even less on yours and that way you know for a fact that you have a car you can depend on for years and go where ever you want with out any worries.

Taking the head out and not doing your piston rings is like changing your timing belt and not doing the water pump. It might run fine but you don't know if a couple months later piston rings might go out.

I'm just telling you from experience to take advantage of your time and labor in order to save you from some future headaches, but its your car and you do as you want.

thank you very much for yalls incite. your absolutely right Rafyp5. it does make since to go ahead and to the rings. im always up for the "while your in there". im just gonna hold off on the motor and intake for now until I can have adequate time to do everything. but also, if I am going that far, wouldn't it be even better to just go ahead and pull the motor, do all bearings, rings, intake, clutch, ext. all at once? vehicle has 240k, engine has 130k. previous owner put a used motor in it.

What do you mean almost new btw?

They were mounted in the car earlier in the year around February when it had a major zoom zoom boom incident and sat in a shop for about two months until I got it rebuilt so "while we were in there" all 4 mounts were replaced with OEMs then after I go it home I took the engine apart again and at that time the mounts were removed and replaced with AWRs the OEM mounts hardly have any drive time on them but they were mounted up therefore "almost new" or if you prefer "barely used" lol.
