im trying to hook up my oil guage, but i dont wnat to drill into my block. I seen that they make an oil sender. You take off your oil filter, and bolt the sender on and everything that goes to it, and then put the oil filter on the sender, would that be the best bet to go ? or is there an even easier way?

you can read about the method i used here:

http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123615506

when i was trying to do it, someone informed me that the adapters that go inbetween your oil filter and your block required you to cut the bolt that your oil filter goes on to, which didn't sound like something i wanted to do at all. Others have said thats not the case, it may depend on which adapter you get. Regardless you can always remote mount it. Or, if you don't want the stock dummy light in the dash you can just replace the stock oil sender with the aftermarket one. Check out that thread.

Screw your pressure sender into the stock hole. Done and done. Put a T if you don't want the dummy light on.

well its not necessarily that easy.... the threads on the block are bspt and any aftermarket sender is most likely npt, so you'll need an adapter. Then if you want to keep the stock dummy light you pretty much have to remote mount it due to all the weight of the hardware needed to get it all to work. And if you decide you don't want the dummy light and disconnect the stock sender and the dummy light comes on, all you should need to do is ground it.

It's cheap enough to just buy the bpst adapter. I used the oil supply kit from www.stealthmodeperformance.com (hondas use bpst as well) and it came with the adapter to plug into the bpst and give you a bpst to hook up the stock sender and two 1/8NPT (one for turbo oil feed, one for oil pressure sender for gauge.. it came with a screw in plug for those though)

I remote mounted all my s***, and the 1/8" NPT thread fit perfecly man... I'm not the first...

fair enough, but i wouldn't want to take that chance when you're messing with threading stuff into the block itself.

Yo sp33d03, check out the 4th page of my engine build thread. I go into detail with pictures about how to set this up. The threads in the block are different! Read this first!

Sorry link is to first page of thread.

Remote mounting may be a better choicedue to weight, but everything is very solid as it is. The only thing I would have to do to remote mount would be to add a length of steel braided hose between the autometer pressure sender and the mazda oil feed line adapter (T).

okay so its not that easy then.. it seem pretty easy, but since you guys did it, how do you feel about it? was it hard or easy.. i just dont want to strip the block and be screwed..

i did mines using a sandwich plate. i had to replace the oil filter bolt with a shorter one.

the good thing about the plate is that it has more than one port so you can put say oil pressure and temp.

to start off with, the stock sender and the block are both threaded with BSPT (british standard pipe thread). However, pretty much no matter who makes your gauge, the aftermarket sender is going to be NPT (national pipe thread), and so will pretty much all the fittings you can find. This means that you have to do some special adapters and whatnot. For this, livelyjay's post at the top of the second page in this thread is very helpful. The second list, under "1 aftermarket gauge with stock sender" Contains all the parts you'd need for your fittings, MINUS the pieces for the remote mounting (essential because not only is there not enough room, but also because you'd have a massive amount of stuff hanging off your block and vibrating and getting undue stress).

---thats copied and pasted from the thread i referenced you to.

EDIT: for the hyperlink with the part numbers, you're just gonna have to go read the actual post, i'm too lazy to copy and paste that too.

alright thanks man ..im going to re-read that thread hopefully understand it and get to work ..
