Has anyone put an aftermarket deck in their 3/MS3?

I'm just curious because the stock headunits looks pretty massive, so if someone were to replace that with say a Pioneer or Alpine single DIMM deck or something like that, I would imagine it would look a little funny. Has anyone swapped out the stock headunit yet? If so, pics please :D

Your dash display would be OOC, only thing that would be there is just a clock and outside temp gauge... this is why im sticking to the stock unit....for now

Well screw the display, I like touch screen, DVD, HD and full IPOD control. A little extra power to push that pitiful Bose amp and speakers, and a little extra thump in the back. (rockon)

ok...ok.... i retract my last statement. That does look very good(2thumbs)

No issues, your opinion is your opinion, mine might be different.

Damn that is a nice setup. Do the two smaller screens even work anymore though?

I have NAV on the left screen (wish I did not as it is a POS, would have added the module to the JVC) and the rest of the left screen works fine.

The right screen partially works, the climate control still works, the interface to the HU does not (so what). The upper portion works for the worthless messages.

Face is removable when you are parked in a questionable area, touch works great, steering wheel interface works fine with the PAC module (volume is touchy), video is nice. All in all, I very nice unit for the price.

Modification of the Bose Amp and speakers are next but not for a while.

Didn't see it mentioned here, but PG sells a bolt in 2 din headunit that has a ton of great functions and works with the steering wheel controls and temp/HVAC display works (does not display radio functions any more though). I have seen them in person on more than one MZ3 and MS3. It looks great and works very well.

Thread with tons of info here.

Saw this (not in person, no one around with this HU) before getting the JVC, the photos looked like something a few generations back with the knobs and buttons. I liked the clean design of the JVC and the modular approach. JVC was a little more but I got exactly what I wanted from I decent manufacturer.

It does have more of an "OEM" look to it. The JVC you have looks great too, just a different look. The functionality of the JVC might be slightly better. The main advantage of this is it retains 95% of the OEM function and adds most of the aftermarket functions that many people are looking for. Really like apples and oranges. They are both good, it just depends what you have a taste for.

Very much agree, different strokes for different folks

Had a buddy come by yesterday with his 06 hatch, he had the same kind of setup, and i keep looking at this one, and really liking it. Its very clean.

quick question.... does the bluetooth on your MS3 still works?

Sorry for the delay, out of town and tend to use other sites a bit more. Bluetooth works because the JVC HU had bluetooth built in. I added another mic above the mirror. The steering wheel controls don't work at this time, but to answer a call you just touch the screen, fairly easy.

So you have the BOSE package and your new radio still outputs to the BOSE amp and speakers? How did you accomplish this, I would love to know how you wired it, what modules or harnesses you had to get to make it work. I'm thinking of replacing my stock radio but I didn't think I could do that without running all new speakers wires and installing new door speakers.

I have been thinking about this for quite some time now. If I add an aftermarket H/U, will I still have the steering wheel controls? Also wondering how the Bluetooth system will work with the different radio.

an aftermarket unit you will have to get a steering wheel interface.. if you get the caska unit that retains all the tock stuff you wont. the blue tooth with aftermarket will prob be built into the aftermarket the blue tooth with the caska stock unit is also built in but still works. i have caska unit im about to take out of my 10 speed3 because i got a new pioneer for my birthday. so it will be in the FS section pretty soon..

Here is my set-up.

bluetooth, steerin wheel buttons work, and teh ipod thingie
