Has anyone sourced the parts to make their own cam driven fuelpump upgrade? I would assume it would be much cheaper than buying it through the company currently selling it.

not to be an a$$ or anything but you'll never find anything. And even if a company makes somthing that would work, they will tell you that it doesnt work because they dont want to be associating with mazda and/or they dont want to be responsible for any damage due to the lack of research that theyve done in testing it with our cars.

The only one that has been tested somewhat right now is the protegegarage pump.

believe me, I tried through numerous emails to companies like APR.

ok - that thread was a mess and pricing was structured based off what was initially posted by mrlilguy. when we priced ours we were following step with his pricing as we were more or less buying his product. now that all of that information from APR has come to light and we know what parts costs are, we will be substantially reducing the price of the pump kits.

There are 2 companies out there that have these things made and they have put insanely large amounts of time and money into researching and developing these pumps and I'm sure going to the hardware store and finding new valves and springs isn't an option but like I said before good luck!

I know about the pumps but im not at liberty to discuss this at this time. NDA has yet to expire.

Unless youre a machinist, youre not going to be sourcing these parts yourself. The design is quite complicated but its been solved.

I have a machinist to work with. I have just come up with an electronic substitute to this cam driven pump.

I will be making my calls tomorrow.

So you have designed a 1600psi and higher electronic fuel pump that increases with engine rpm and fuel demands?

No. My mistake. I overlooked the fact that this is a direct injection engine and that a high pressure must be obtained. There fore I have dropped the idea of an electronic unit.

If the company producing these kits are willing to sell the necessary internals of the pump at a much cheaper price than the full pump, I will hault my search. However if the companies producing these pumps aren't willing to sell the internals (I can assure you they have a good reason for not selling internals)I will continue my search.

I will be pursuing my search for a cheaper alternative when I recieve my car.

Ya, that's a good idea. Receive your car. Maybe you will then have some clue what you are talking about - - -but, somehow I doubt it.
