Has anyone hooked up aftermarket subs to factory radio??

I have an 04 Mazda 6 with Bose, I was wandering if anyone has installed aftermarket subs to factory radio with a line out converter...? if so and this is possible to do where did you splice the converter at? How well does it sound? Thanks for the help.
