Has a JDM turbo engine swap been done to 99-03 proteges? I haven't heard anything of it being done, but I thought it might be a good idea, cause I know how well the motors hold up to uped boost (the MS proteges).

Its a 1.8L BP motor with a turbo that you can get for Japan. What engine are you talking about?

I was just wondering if anyone had done put a JDM turbo motor in their car. Also what motors came in the 99-03 protege/familia in Japan?

the same motor thats in your car (im pretty sure)

I understand that it's cool to have a foreign market motor, but in all honesty it's not like jdm engines are the "end all" motors. The majority, if not all of the aftermarket or custom mods to the engine, tranny, and suspension that you can find for your pro will give you gains over stock, even JDM stock.

If you're looking for more power, start modding under the hood. Most swaps will put a giant hole in your pocket and honestly, you could invest that same ammount of money on your domestic market engine and be making a ton more power.

exactly... I remember acuple years back when everyone was swapping motirs i.e. si civic hatch with a swapped b16 motor. Acuple grand for 30 horse power, give or take.

not the best bang for the buck if you ask me....

take it from someone who just recently did a swap, it's expensive. In hindsight I'd have been better off having my motor rebuilt with forged internals and the tranny overhauled and gone from there with the power mods. I can tell you I'd have a freakin fast 1.8 if I went that route.

sweet a JDM turbo diesel!!!!! Thats what I always wanted, haha. Yeah. I know I could build this motor. I kinda just wanted to be diff. with it. But that sounds like the route i'm gonna have to go when that time comes around. Also most JDM motors come better, stronger internals and can be pushed further without tearin into the block.

ummm theres a jdm turbo diesel... i don't htink you want that tho

ummm no
there's a JDM diesel but no tubo diesel
there's an EDM turbo diesel though

I believe he's talking about the FS-ZE. UPSMan has this swap in his '00 Protege. This motor was used in the Mazda MPS in Japan and I *think* Europe. It's basically a tuned version of the FS-DE and produces about 170hp n/a to the crank. Pretty good.

I don't know for sure if anyone has turboed this motor, but I'm pretty sure someone has. If anyone knows for sure, it'll be "L8R". He's a JDM geek and makes it his business to know...lol.

It was a decent difference in initial performance. Was good for mid-high 14s in a 1/4 with just i/h/e, but the main reason for the swap was for future potential power. You can make A LOT more power for less money out of a b16 or any b-series v-tec motor.

....Then the K20 came along....lol

The money that was spent on the new Japanese motor is like the same as building one up.

aslo the k-20 /w tranny is uber expensive but is good for 400hp with a good tune. I think back in the day when they were first available i heard them going for around 7kCAD /w tranny and papers.

Yeh, those motors are mad expensive. Down here, still close to 9-10k for a complete swap.

ive also heard that the fs-de was used in a kia small suv as a rear drive and made 170... was this beast the ze in america?
