Ok, I'm on a AV forum about, but I don't know everyone there enough to trust their opinions yet.

Looking at the Denon 3805
H/K 635
Or Marantz 7500

You would pick? and why?

Well, if I were you, I'd try to go to find people who have each of those pieces and listen to them. People have different preferences.

Marantz SR7500.

Mainly because I don't like all the 'extras' that most companies put in their receivers, I want something that just amplifies the signal and can do a clean job of switching sources. It also helps that the Marantz pieces have a largely overbuilt power supply so you have a lot of reserve power.
Now just to temper this I sell the Marantz equipment and not the Denon or HK product lines so I'm a little biased. Also Denon and MArantz are actually the same company if you look far enough up the line, D&M holdings is both their parent corporation. HK get a lot of nice technology from the Lexicon division of Harman International so they might be very decent but there hasn't been a lot said about them for a few years.

I've got the SR-8000 Marantz

It freaken rocks man, you can turn it up when you have nothing playing and it is quiet as a mouse.

The signal to noise ratio is virtually 0%.

No distortion what so ever.

You can't get more warmth unless you go with a tube amp.

My vote goews to Denon, I have a 2802 and it is a great receiver and sounds great with my Paradigm speakers

As with anything listen to them and decide for yourself, but I'm sire you wont be disappointed going with the Denon

Good Luck:)

I'm leaning towards the Denon. I want lots of control over the sound so the eq for all the speakers is a good thing. I also want something with at least 100-120 watts power, this is where the h/k comes up short. I'll also be matching to a set of paradigm's.

Dude, easy choice with those compared. You may want to consider Yamaha, as they are IMO the best. I really like the denon 3805 though, it may be my next amp.

Marantz and Denon are the same company now and are even rebadging some of each others products.
As its the owner of the 2, and one of the premier technology developement companies (Invernted PCM), I like Denon. There stuff has been built proof in all areas I have used it be it home, commercial, industrial, Audio, or Video.

Thanks guys. Denon is still my main choice.

I wonder if their about to come out with a 3808 or something soon :)

As for the remote, I could care less. I will just buy another Home Theater Master Remote. These are the BEST remotes I have ever used.

have you thought of adding Onkyo to your list? Denon is highly overrated on their power per channel output. Like 80watts actually puts out ~26watts rms...

out of the three you listed on the Poll I would buy the Denon.
After almost three years my Onkyo TX-DS787 is still runnin' strong.

I can get a deal on Denon locally as well. I'd have to order the Onkyo, or Marantz from somewhere far far away

Denons not over rated at all, although they may rate differently then Onkyo. Onkyo is still holding to the "we have high current watts" BS. They make a good product but its only on the same level as the denon.

Just to make it harder for you newf, start looking at B&K and Boston Acoustics new Recievers. I love being a BA dealer. NEW RECIEVER FOR ME (yippy)

No good on that one, they aren't dumb enough to send me any demos, they know they will never see them again.

I've got an H/k 230 and BA speakers...works pretty darn well for me...then again, all you guys tend to take things a little further than I really need/have the cash to...
Good luck... btw, all functionality aside, you can't tell me anything LOOKS cooler than the H/K stuff :)
good luck newf, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with whatever you get.

it's going to be a while before everything is in place. I have yet to start the room. As soon as work lets up a bit I'll start it. It's going to be a home theater, 106" screen built into the wall in some sort of wood. the speakers will also be built into that unit and hidden with black grill type mesh, ceiling mount projector, and of course the stereo, seating etc.Got a lot to do though. Sub floor has to be put in, hardwood floors in the entire basement( I might actually go with carpet in the actual theater section though for sound purposes), of course, there's going to be a room with a bar in it :) and pool table, then there's the stereo for the mini dance floor....it's going to be cool. Me and the woman are pretty hyped about it

here's an idea as to what we are doing... Although, my speakers will be on sides of the screen where he as shelves, the center channel below the screen as he has it.
