Had some fun with a BMW 328

(iagree)

I blew past a Lamborghini on the right over the weekend and got nothing.
But judging by how the driver was *ahem* "driving"...probably had no business being behind the wheel of it in the first place.

EDIT: come to think of it, I've buzzed a few Porsches with disappointing results as well. Wouldn't surprise me if they were "show" cars castrated by an AT...

BMW 328s are not powerhouses. My newer 325i is down 1hp from the 328. They handle very well but power wise are probably not all too far from your standard economy car. I think my raging 325i tags 60 in 8.5 seconds or something close to that. It's bank vault solid and very nice on the inside though. It's also crazy smooth. I accidentally set my cruise control @ 80mph and had the car in 3rd gear. I drove like that for about 15 miles on the interstate until I looked down and saw the tach needle @ 6800 rpms. Never heard the car. never felt any vibration. This was with the windows up and the radio on low. My wife gave me a good ribbing over that one. :)

She drives the BMW. When she drives my car she freaks when she steps on the gas. Not enough to stop her from doing it.....all the time, for no reason.

Yeah, people that don't always drive their sports cars fast and race other cars aren't good drivers, right?

No. The following are what I consider marks of good driving:
  • staying in one lane, and not letting every bump/crack/speck-of-dirt send you out of control
  • controlled turns; if you need more than one lane to make a turn onto another street or into a driveway, you're going too fast...
  • turn-signals! they're not for decoration, and I'm not a mind-reader...
  • maintaining the flow of traffic--pass quickly and get out of the way, no rubber-necking accidents, maintain a constant speed when possible...
  • frequent mirror usage...
  • planning ahead--maybe crossing 3 lanes of traffic just before an exit isn't such a grand idea?
I can't exactly pull these people over and tell them they're driving like idiots, so I buzz past them. If they want to be accident candidates, it's their car and insurance premium, so they're more than welcome to have at it behind me...

Or people getting on the highway that just stay right at the same speed reguardless if there is a car in their way or not assuming that we should just be able to move.

Oh, I just made a comment in the Saturn Sky thread that was along the lines of this one, schweet.

Wow man, you must just be crazy fun to hang out with.
Oh yeah, I am a blast. Especially when I am driving my car or riding my bike on a twisty road.

BTW, my grandmother could do 100+ MPH on a highway. What is so exciting about that?

Right on. I also have an '01 BMW M5. Kids are always trying to mess with me in cars that cannot realistically keep up. So why bother? My usual response is to catch them at a light and ask how much cash they want to bet.

Not to say I don't drive very very fast...but there is skill and judgement invovled.

I agree with you a 100%

There is nothing more aggravating than a person who isn't paying atttention. People who don't use turn signals or fail to give enough warning before attempting a maneuver are idiots. I try to get by them as well because I don't want to take the chance of being in the 20 car pile-up they causes when they're yacking on their cell. I'm also a firm believer that people who drive fast, stay in one lane and keep both hands on the wheel are less likely to get in an accident than someone going 25 mph slower and eating a 6 course meal behind the wheel.

I wish people would realize that they're driving a weapon.

I went to Europe (Belgium) and one of the things I liked most is that EVERYONE drives FAST (average about 140 kmh ~95 mph) but I'll tell ya over the two weeks I was there I NEVER saw an accident and NEVER saw anyone doing anything but driving- no cell phones, no food, no shaving. A guy I was working with told me that typically using a cell while driving is considered a major offense and you would either get jailed or lose your license.

I wish the US had such strict rules.

Man this must be the week of racing. I had one of those Civic SI things(new body style-2004 model year) try to walk over me tonight on the way home from work. At the light we took off and of course couldnt keep up. Then like the bmw from earlier in the week came flying up, but this time I saw him and when he got next to me I down shifted into 4th and pulled away. Then at the light he just started shaking his head at me then pulled off on the side street to the right. I thought it was funny, butt that is me.

Virginia Drivers = WORST IN THE HISTORY OF ALL HUMANITY!

Why oh why couldn't my P5 have been equipped with heat-seeking missles to blast some of these "drivers" (and I use the term loosely) off the road. Sometimes I wonder how these people got their licenses.

License requirements in the USA are waaaaaay to lax. Some don't even have to leave the parking lot.

MD drivers are pretty darn bad....I have driven here for almost 10 years and have lived and driven all over the world, so I have a lot of different perspectives. MD has some of the worst...
