Hacksawing my Fujita CAI to a SRI

Is this a good idea? I've had issues in the past with previous cars in regards to sucking up water into my engine and destroying it...hence, I'm too cheap to buy a SRI too. If I hacksaw it, the filter will be more or less sitting up against the MAF sensor. Could something like that trigger a CEL too? Thanks.

dude...you live in vegas, a desert that almost never sees enough rain to make a puddle. How do you think you will hydrolock an engine there?

The once a year that it floods there during "monsoon" season, avoid the flooded intersections.

It's not hard, I did it for 7 years.

i would be more concerned with heat-soak than hydro-lock in vegas. what type of car do you have?

I have an 06 speed 6. I just want to cut it a little so i can bring the filter closer up. Its so hot out here in the summer, CAI doesnt make a damn difference! lol

It wouldn't really matter to tell you the truth. The CAI is all but nullified by the temperature of the air it's pulling right off the asphalt out there. I was stationed in 29 Palms and had some experience with that while I was there.

you can possibly water proof the filter, not completely but this will help to repell water. Its not the same manufacturer but anyway, hope this helps..

Just my two cents... I live in Vegas as well and run the Fujita CAI. Never had problems with it, even with the unusual amounts of rain we have had recently. Even with how poorly the roads are constructed here for regards to rain and how the puddles form, its really easy to avoid the puddles or if u have to go through a small puddle just throw it in neutral and roll through it. Not hard, just got to pay a little more attention when it rains, which should be done any ways in vegas! People have no idea how to drive in the rain out here -.-

Awesome, another speed 6 in Vegas! I basically runined 2 engines in the early 2000's, so there will always be a concern in regards to hydrolock. I actually shortened the CAI by about 3 inches at the most. The filter now sits right up against the frame, so I'm glad I chopped it. Where abouts in Vegas do you live?
