Gutted Air Box??? Is it necessary?

So I just got my Cobb SRI today. I want to install it but I was wondering if I need to gut all the lower portion of the air box? I really dont want to because if I have to take it to the dealer ill just have to reinstall it. So my question is can I just remove the stock air box and install the SRI or do I need to take all of it out? Thanks a ton guys.

do you mean leaving the resonator in place? sure you can leave it there, but it kind of blocks flow but thats is ok.

installed my sri & forge bpv on the my ms3 at 2500 miles been to the dealer a feww times for warranty work with no issues. Mazda sells a CAI maybe not currently producting but people have bought and own them, i cant see how they would have a problem with a intake that has no chance of hydro-lock. I say rip it all out of there and if you have a snorkel to the battery box on the underside of your hood take it out too cause when its removed you pretty much have ram air intake.

the front bumper is actually a piece of cake to take off. literally takes like 5min and is so much easier than going in through the fender splash guard.

The worst part of installing a CAI on our cars is removing the three bolts that hold the lower resonator portion in place.

I haven't taken the bumper off, so I can't comment on that part.
