Guess what?

2001 323 Astina SP20 (P5)
Over the weekend just past I competed in the first round of the first ever australian sport compact drag racing series.

i competed in the sport fwd class which is essentially for fwd (shock) street driven cars on DOT approved tyres.

well, i won! $1000 (aud) and 2 trophies later i'm pretty happy!

funny thing is that my worst run on sunday in the rounds was in the final and i still won. worst is relative since in all my previous runs i was getting 0.43x reaction times and having plenty of time at the end to hit the brakes to not break out. my dial in was 14.80. one race i jumped on the brakes so hard i still got a 15.0xx and the mph was only 71mph!!!! in the final i beat the guy by 0.027 seconds over the line on my 14.925 run. but he broke out (ran a PB) so i was fine.

bring on the next round! the runner up isnt competing in the next rounds and i doubt the guys knocked out in the semi's would either. big points advantage to me!

i showed those turbo guys ;) hehehehe

big thanks go out to steve @ nsn for all of his help and guidance with the awesome microtech LT8S ems.

just gotta get some sponsorship now ;)

Congrats!! Show them what a protege is made of. Make us all proud and kick there asses. So what was your competition? Like what cars and mods they have? Just curious to know what you were up against.

Well done on the win!!! I watched you race on saturday, it was great. You certainly shocked a few people with your times, here is one of the pics i got of you racing.

I think they were all just shocked and awed that he drag raced a protege and just never recovered...
Seriously tho, congrats.

pretty good competition. a fair few cars with BPT's, a turbo lancer (raced in the final). supercharged toyota. there were 14 cars in the sprot fwd class

Nice man...trade me cars...

also I need to pm you, I think I might go with the Microtech over the Link...I have a bunch of questions for you and turfy...and also, I don't know why I am typing right now because I just told you that I would pm you...seriously, I am jealous...

well it only just occurs to me that i havent told anyone on msp how i went with the 2nd round of the championship.

the 2nd round was held in sydney on 17 december last year. smaller field this time, but who cares, i won again!

so now i have 200 points in the class and the next closest guy is on (only) 60 points. all i need to do is get into the semi's on the next round (march 25) and i win the championship!

dragster australia magazine covered the event and i (naturally) bought a copy. i have scanned the pages where i am mentioned and with a pic of my car.

and another thing that i worked out just the other night. i have not been racing that long. my first attempt at drag racing was on 31 july 2004. i did not race again until feb 2005, and then not again until june 2005! so i'm going to claim (sorta) that i've only been racing for 8 months and i've won 2 championship rounds. yeah, i'm pretty pleased with myself!!! the jamboree final was only my 42nd trip down the drag strip and the final in the event just past was only my 52nd trip down the drag strip.

Sweet. Good work Andrew. My first magazine mention/photo was, irconically, in an roadrace/autocross magazine, not for drag racing.
