GT 500 - Overhyped?

and the vette won... imagine if it was against the z06

well no s***.. the cars are in two completely different genres altogether. of course the corvette is going to win. it's a freakin' vette.. it has always outperformed a mustang.

But both can be had for similar pricing. And the two cars are constantly tested against one another (the GT500 is the new Cobra). And the Vette has only outperformed the high performance Mustangs by a little bit.

On the other hand, it's good to see the horsepower wars back and better than ever. I'm a GM guy but I respect this Mustang even if it is overpriced and overhyped.

I want to see somebody pick a new shelby mustang for 42K. You woun't be able to touch one unless you add another 10K to that price tag. Now your getting into the price range of a new corvette with the Z51 package. Just wait a year and Ford will be trying to give the shelby mustang away.

I'll take a real mustang....the 2003 SVT Cobra. I like independent rear and blowers.

There is a big differance between keeping up and staying close. But still fords top dog cobra can't beat the stock base vette and for sure not the zo6. Not in 03 and not even with the 06. But I have to say that I love the way the last cobra looked. With a drop and 12in rears and 10in fronts, that thing looks mean. And is hella fast.

Yeah, I'd much rather have the '03 Cobra over the new Shelby or the Vette. That thing was just mean lookin. And the Shelby is going to be just like the last Thunderbird. 10 grand in dealer markups minimum. They won't move off the lot.

It might make hardcore Mustang enthusiast's hoo-hoo-dillys make funny noises in their pants, but there's no way I'd pay $43K for a 4000 lb ponycar. It looks the part, and it will pull like the old-school-esque ponycar that it is, but it's still a 4000 lb Mustang... that will most likely handle like a 4000 lb Mustang, and have the same "American Ford-ness" of the other Mustangs. Collectability/rarity factor or not, there are many, many other cars I'd rather sink $43K into.
