it looks nice but for 42k isnt that a little steap? id rather get something else at that price range....or get a econo sports compact and mod it with that kinda cash and stomp other gt 500's.

Definately a lot of hype with this one. Figgin' thing weighs almost 2 tons!?!?! 500 hp is sweet, but it would be much sweeter at 3000 lbs. I'd rather pick up a classic SE-R, spend half of the 42 large on it and whip the pants off that thing. Hell, for a few more dollars I could put Shelby stickers on it too.

You guys are missing the point of the car. This isnt some import car that just any one can pick up. This is an American Muscle at its best (for ford that is) that can be had by more then just rich people. 42k is a lot of money but not when you look at the over all cost of cars these days. The normal price range for a mid size decent car is 30k (Accord, Camry, Mazdaspeed6). All of these cars are on the edge of 30k. Now go up a notch and get into the Acura, Lexus, and Infinity and youre hitting 40k. Now all of these are nice but they lack that American grunt factor. They lack the tear your skin off torque that we all love. With 500hp on a car that will be mid to low 4s 0-60 and more than likely mid 12s from the factory (sub 12s with slicks and exhaust), I just dont see it being hype.
Now I like imports but this is the way I see it. A person can make any car fast. All you have to do is put FI on it and call it a day. But at the end of that day its still an import. This will be a legend! A person will get more looks with the 500 then a turbo import.

I recall initial pricing was released saying the GT500 would go for mid to upper 30's. For a car with 500hp, that's awesome. Then the car ended up at $42k?! Add a couple more thousand and get yourself a Vette that is a tad quicker / faster, and def. has much better handling - and it's a Vette!! The GT500? Too much $$$ for what it is, in my opinion.
i think you're missing the point. i have no doubt that it is a good car with plenty of torque and good quarter mile speed. but that's not what it is for. it's not a daily driver car straight line car, it's a weekend track car with some real world drivability. weekend track cars need to turn, need to be nimble and need to be able to use their power. its main competition is the C6 vette, no honda, acura, infiniti, nissan, any import is in its class (although there are probably a few that are close to it around a track, not down the straightaway though). the reviews i've seen have it getting beat by the vette by a hefty margin. if they dropped 900lbs or so i think it'd be a much better carHughes412 said:

And agin, american car builders don't build sports cars. They build muscle cars. Very fast with SOME handling. Now I havn't read all the articles from ford, but I've never seen them say this was meant to be a anything but a beast. And that's what it is.

Again this isn't your typical mustang. Most shelby's ( and monkey not dodge shelby's) Im talking about mustang shelby's are still saught after. Correct me if im wrong. Considering this is the last mustang shelby will put his name on most people considering the car won't mind paying a premium. Now will some guy with a protege want a shelby mustang for 42k when he can get a vette or even a used viper for that matter, probably not.
Yes it might be overweight compared to the vette but well its not in the same class. Keep in mind that the engine in the shelby is a de-tuned version of the Ford GT's engine. There is still a lot of potential to be had.
