I am sure many of you have had a problem with corrosion / paint bubbling off on the stock ES wheels. I have seen countless Protege's with this problem.

Is the problem with the wheel material or the paint? I am considering sanding mine down after winter (the stockers have my winter tires) and re-painting them.

Curious to know if anybody has done this with any success. Thanks.

Here is a great how-to for you! I discovered it after I finished mine...you can see my results (no before shots unfortunately) towards the end...

Thanks for linking up that thread :D My wheels have this problem also.

I am hoping to try this eventually although I don't know when I will be able to do it, what with the cold winter and only having my unheated attached garage to work in.

Would it be possible to do what is in that thread in a chilly garage? :D

My tire cancer is starting to annoy me, but it is getting colder. Might have to wait until spring for this project. hmm

My problem has been inside corrosion. One shop had been brushing the rims and applying sealer inside, but that lasted maybe a year. Now I found a nice shop that uses a buffer wheel and compound to get ALL the corrosion out and make a better surface for sealant. Now I don't have to check my pressures weekly.
