Grom Aux Interface Q

I have question for you people out there with the GROM audio interface for your P5's. Recently my 6 cd changer decided to take a sh*t so rather than spend the money on getting another one, I was thinking of just getting the GROM audio aux input. My question is, despite the changer not working, will the input interface still be able to work with the stereo? I mean it works off the MD/TAPE channel of the stock unit no?

I have the grom in my truck and it runs off secondary CD1 input on oem stereo. Imagine it would jack into the tape/md on the oem P5 stereo too. I have the sylfex aux mod board in the P5 and that's how it jacks into the oem unit. It is only 3.5mm with no ipod connection tho.

I have the Ipod grom interface and it runs off the CD function. It plugs in to were the remote cd changer would plug into. Not the MD thing.

This is the one I went with in my truck......flash drive never needs charging FTW! have 3.5 & ipod hookups too but seldom use them. My cell phone will jack into the 3.5 for the 8gb of music on it but isn't iphone.

Looks like they have it for 02-08 Mazdas too. Would have to use my cig lighter to put the usb adapter in tho. On the truck I had an empty panel on the dash to mount usb port.

This is the one I was referring to. So the plug that they give you with this one plugs into the back of the stereo unit and not where the MD/Tape channel would be?

Yeah, I know you were talking about the aux input one and not the ipod specific one. I believe the only difference is the plug at the end for what ever device you have. If you don't have ipod then you get the 3.5 jack, but they should still be plugging into the same spot on the back of the factory stereo. It plugs into where the remote cd changer goes so it will be run off of the cd function on the stereo. The md/tape function is seperate from this as there was an option to have either one of those intergrated into the head unit that plugged into where the black box is on the head unit, if that makes sense.

The md/tape option would replace the black plastic box that says "multi-fuction audio system" The grom interface plugs into the back where a remote cd changer would. Make sense? hope so

Oh I just figured it plugged in where the md/tape outlet is. If you remove that "multi-fuction audio system" cover there is a plug underneath there, and I just assumed it plugged in there like the sylflex aux mod. So then it plugs into the back of the stereo unit and replaces the cd changer plug? I thought it mentioned on the site that the cd changer would remain working?

I think they mean your 6 disc changer would still work, the local one if you have the 6. It would be cd and cd1 on the display using the cd plug on back of the unit instead of using tape/md like with the sylfex board. My truck works like that using the plug on back of oem stereo and cd button on front to change from oem cd input to cd1 grom input.

On the back of the factory HU is a plug that will except a remote cd changer. That plug style is a universal plug for all to use. If you have an indash 6 disc changer you should still have this remote plug-in in the back. I do not have a 6-disc, only one. If I wanted I could get a cd changer and plug it into the back of the head unit and place it under a seat or in a trunk and listen to different discs. Since I have an ipod I used the grom audio device the same way. You will still be able to listen to cds in your car when you want to or....whatever device you have hooked up to the aux jack.
