For those that were interested in or following the GRM Turbo Miata that I built, the issue containing the results of the Grassroots Motorsports $2005 Challenge has finally been printed and released. Therefore, I thought I'd post the slot in which my meager challenger was placed. The bulk of the coverage went to the first place winner (a second gen RX7 with 302 swap -- at least it was a Mazda) and a few surrounding happenstances.
To recap, I placed 9/62 in the autocross, 28/62 in the drag (severe clutch slip), 24/62 in the concourse, and 18/62 overall. The basic build process was depicted here: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84468 . Again, thanks much to Luke (RoguePro5) for his assistance during the build.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with the overall outcome of the car. Aside from competing well in the auto-x segment, orange peel in the paint, leaking brake fluid (which therefore ate paint in the engine bay), shot clutch, and lack of overall detailing (no time) are what set me back in the overall points.
I'll definately be back with a vengance next year. Currently, I have a list containing roughly 30 areas of attention which will improve power, traction, handling, and appearance. The ugly ass black steel wheels are already gone
. The car will definately have a lot more character in the next round. Additionally, I have about $400 left to reclaim legally. The car will be sharp.
Unfortunately, the event has been moved to Fall of 2006. I'll have plenty of time to complete any changes, but I'm already floored to compete again in the challenge. Again, just for grins, I'll be posting updates once things are underway as I did with the original build.
Anyway, I'll quit rambling, here's a quick shot of the magazine slot. It's a shame that the angle is what it is in that decals representing those that "sponsored" didn't show up. In additon, there is a "msprotege.com" decal on the windsheild that is all but impossible to see
.
Side note: Paul, as per our deal, you are more than welcome to drive your old Miata anytime. Drop me a line.
