2008 Black Mazda 3s Hatch. "La Mujer Negra Bonita"
Some of y'all know me from the pic thread. Anyways, here's my dilema. I'm looking at a Mazda6 Grand Sport S 5-door Hatch V6 of course. But I'm also looking at the Nissan Altima V6 SE Leather Sport Package. Rather not have the Bose systems in either, but hey. Not ready to go test drive them yet, but would like to know if any of you have driven both & what you think. MotorTrend.com wasn't much help except to say the Altima wasn't a nimble as the 6. Anyone have 0-60 times for both also? Any info you all could provide would be greatly. I have found the potential care to keep me in the Mazda family & definitely would be modding this one. Thanks in advance...

The Altima is indeed quicker..it has 40 more horses...but the Mazda is a far more nimble and fun car to drive. (2cents)

Appreciate the feedback...

Anyone else? I know there are M6 V6 drivers on here...

I have the 5 door. I think you can stow more stuff in there than you would with the Altima. My Bosal catback came in a corrugated box that was about 6' x 2.25' x 0.5' - kinda like a coffin. My 5 door swallowed it up whole, and all I had to do was put the rear seats down, and move the front passenger seat up a couple of inches. Heck, I've even slept in it and I had room to spare. (cool)

To sum up the Mazda 6s 5 door:
- Not the same amount of oomph, but still pretty peppy.
- More fun on the twisties.
- Lots of space to stow stuff
- IMHO, the best styled M6 out of the three variants. I like how the roofline blends in to the rear.

Thanks for the feed back. I don't have a family, but all that extra space is inticing. I could install a couple of amps & a 10" or 2 & still have room. That's what I love about my Proteg5, the nimbleness, but the lack of get up & move is slowly draining me.

Thanks again for the feedback & keep the info coming y'all...

Before you do anything ... make sure you drive a MazdaSpeed6.

You'll be glad you did. (sun)

If I knew how to drive stick I would. I think I have pretty good idea with always driving the P5 in auto stick mode sans the footwork. I would love to have a stick.

One other thing, The Mazda is indeed better looking IMO. Altimas are everywhere and like I said...the 6 is much more fun to drive. (first)

I'm a hatch owner as well.. it gets my (2thumbs)

I agree with ray on that one. The added utility of the hatch and the MINIMAL difference on the body lines between that and the sedan make it the sexiest 6 :D

I test-drove an Altima SE-R (the top of the line Altima) before I purchased my Speed6. While the Altima had pretty good power, I thought its interior was kinda funky. A little too squarish for me. It is rather roomy, though.

However, it doesn't handle as well as the 6 (on which the Speed6, of course, is based). I pushed the Altima hard around a corner, and the rear end stepped out in a big way, forcing me to let off the gas and correct. Fortunately, the road was dry! For a FWD car, that really surprised me. The Altima doesn't have vehicle stability control. (But it does have traction control.) In other words, if you get the tiniest bit out of shape in inclement weather, you're more likely to swap ends.
