Governor?-WTF!

How do you guys do it? I fastest I can get my car to go without having miles of open road is about 115mph.

I dont get it.

hey smithers...i have an mp3 tho...and on mine it does have a fuel shut off cause i know how a governor works..it just wont let you go any faster..mine shuts off for a second or 2 and then starts feeding more fuel.

Holy COW!!

There is no "speed govenor" on the Protege. It is gear/drag limited for top speed.

There is a fuel shut off, which hits about 7200 rpm...

That is fact...No ifs, ands or buts...

BTW i was only going that fast cause i had to take a fat s*** and i thought i was going to blow not cause i was racing anyone, lol.I dont street race lost a friend last year to it.

Oh ok, that's justification for going that fast.....

The whole reason street racing is bad is because of the speed and instability of a car. If it wasn't for speed a street race would be nothing more than two cars driving down the road passing each other.
(stupid)

I'm sorry about your friend but I'm not sure you've quite learned your lesson yet. SPEED KILLS!!!

Sorry just couldn't help it. :D

speed does not kill. we have a TV ad in Australia on that. what a load of sh!t.

in australia stats released from the fed gov say that 19% of all deaths on australian roads are from speed and alcohol. the remainder are from not wearing seat belts and the biggest one (just under 50% from memory) is fatigue.

yes speed can kill - only when you dont know how to handle the car, or when there are other w@nkers on the road.

my biggest pet hate is poorly kept cars which are total rust buckets. i mean, those are the cars that cops should be getting off the road - they are the TRUE dangers on the road. i saw this car on the way home which made me write all of this - 6 people in the car (seats 5), 2 parents and their 4 kids in the back, rust everywhere, balding tyres, car doing the bouncies over every single itty bump....and then it started to rain. god help those kids and who ever the hell they kill tonight.

later.

btw, i dont race on the street. yes i do quick bursts to 100kmh, then back off. i take my car to a race track to flog the car. but i'm sick to death of cops friggen picking on me!!!!

later

You failed to mention distractions such as cell phones, eating, or putting on make-up. Last I heard those lead the precetages here in the states, espeacially phones, get off your damn phone and drive! One time I saw this lady not yeild to a car going straight at an ungoverned left turn, they crashed, then the lady that didn't yeild comes out on her phone screaming at the other lady, she didn't even know she did anything wrong. And the worst thing is there were two kids in car seats in her car. very very irresponsible

Exactly. If when "racing" the car you rev it past about 7k rpms on your tach (protege5) you will bounce off the rev limiter. There is no govener on the car for top speed other than its own aerodynamics. I have had my car at around 130 and it will not go any faster. I could hold that speed though. The only way to get it to the rev limiter in 5th gear is to be going down hill with a massve wind blowing on your ass, OR install one of those wisthling things. I think they call 'em turbos......;)

Well that'll do it, that does make good sense. ok, no more freeway races for me. BTW is that governor removable?

if you're talking about the rev limiter, then yes and no. You'll need a stand alone, or a some sort of piggy back computer to do that.

Who asked about a "speed governor?"

There are cars that are electronically limited for speed, Saab for example is I think 160 or 165.

And the fuel cut is at 7500 precisely.
You know what I cant remember? I cant remember what the speed is at 7500 in 5th? It seems, from the gearing, that it would be higher than 140, but not by much.
Speaking of which (here he goes!) I am definitely putting a taller 5th in the gearbox when the car is turbo'ed.

Where can I find that, and why is it yes and no?
It's yes and no because the rev limiter is not some physical piece sitting on your throttle. It's electronically (on the CPU) set to cut at 7500prm.
So NO it is not "removable" in that it is just one program in the CPU
but
YES it is removable if you remove your CPU and use a stand-alone system.
I do not know why anyone would want to rev about 7500 regularly, unless this is a track-only application.

it is 7500, I'd love to rev above that, because I have mazdaspeed and jspec cams along with the turbo, I could easily and healthily rev to or past 7500. But I'd rather sacrifice a few RPM's than spend a gajillion dollars on the CPU. Unless I'm hitting 14.001 and can't break that for the life of me,but for now I'll just stick to shifting at 7000. :)

it's 7500, I'm positive, I've nailed it numerous times.

You are assuming the tach is accurate and that the fuel shut off is where the tach starts to drop back down....Not where it actually happens.

Not starting an aguement, but literature on the subject is 7200...
