Got the rx7 home!!!

MSpeed68

OH NO.
Well I decided to buy that car. It was very nice and the guy that was selling it worked at Mazda for 15 yrs and he had 79 rx7, so I guess he knew a thing or 2 about them. (more than me!)

I couldnt talk him down anymore than $3500, but o well, I tried, but I am happy with the car, it ran great the whole 5 hrs driving back, the A/C was ice cold, stereo still works great, shifts were great, revs were nice, just a nice car! I let my wife drive it home at about Oklahoma City, she really likes it alot too :)

This is me right after I bought it, I am so stoked, lol.

wow that thing's clean! If the interior and mechanicals are in as good shape as the exterior, that may not even be a bad buy for the price.

wow such a nice looking FC. congrats on ur purchase xD hehe i want one >< i'm gonna get one when i save up a little more money haha. so what do u plan to do next?

yes! Glad everything came through alright. What sweet condition that thing is in... very jealous over here :) Congrats!

The interior of that car is almost as pristine as the body...

(i saw the interior pics in another thread before he bought it)

the car was a STEAL for what he paid for it.

I really hope he takes care of it...

Yeah, if it made it on a 5 hour drive and was a great ride mechanically, you got a nice deal, that thing looks brand new. Congrats!!!

Looks almost identical to the 86 FC that I picked up in 1996. Same color, same "phone-dial" wheels.

Mine had well over 286,000 miles on it when I sold it 2 years later, which was $1000. Ran great!

A heads-up if you've not owned an RX-7 before:

- Bring extra spark plugs. Also, bring the tools necessary to pull them. Sometimes the engine will flood and you'll have virtually no chance of getting it started unless you pull the plugs and swap them. Note...do not throw the ones you pull out away, just let them dry and use them again.

- Electrical Gremlins suck. My dash had troubles, and I expect yours will eventually as well. Be prepared.

- Watch the driveshaft, and replace it the SECOND you feel vibration or looseness in the joints.

- The shift buzzer reminder is not redline. A good rotary can easily spin in excess of its redline buzzer. The exhaust gets too hot though.

- Buy the best, biggest, baddest battery you can fit in the tray. Optima comes to mind.

- Be kind to your syncros. They will be kind to you in return, for a long time.

That's about all I can think of for now. The 86 RX-7 was my second car, just after my 86 B-2000 Pickup truck. I put 45K miles on it in 2 years, and sold it for what I paid for it. And that was after it got hit in the rear, and tapped in the front. Despite being a small car, it is extremely crash-worthy, and remained 100% drivable after those hits.

Wow, thanks alot fourthmeal for all the info, this is my first rotary, I know I have a lot to learn, but I am pretty quick about learning about new stuff, the guy that sold me the car gave me a Haynes manual too, so I have been reading it.

I am ready and prepared for anything that goes wrong with this car and pretty confident I can fix anything that comes along the way.

Very nice find! Well worth the asking price too IMO. It's almost impossible to find one up here that isn't rotting away from rust or just completely beaten to s***. Treat her good and you'll have tons of fun with it.

Well I got her cleaned up real good, and got a tag today and inspected!

Its my wifes birthday today, and I am going to take her out in it, lol :)

After tracking down my Cosmo...I know the feeling of finding a mint condition ride...Your 7 really does look brand new...Even the exhaust tips are clean!

I really dig the garage pic...Is that where you work or your own personal garage? Man, I would love to have a garage like that...

Yea I got pretty lucky on this one. Yes, that is my garage, its in my backyard all the way at the back of my lot, I have 1.5 acre lot, so I have lots of room for a big shop like that :)

I agree with the others, very solid and clean car. It obviously was garaged and maintained well. From the little yellow plug in the door-jam, even rust-proofed.
